Need a new hair style (with photo)

I'm finally getting rid of my acne and feel like it's time for a new haircut to go with my new skin. I've pretty much always had long straight hair, although I did once have a fairly blunt jaw length bob which looked awful as my hair is so fine and limp. Had a fringe when I was younger which again because of the fine hair just looked wispy and horrid. I hate going to the hairdressers as I never know what to ask for so haven't been for 5+ years. Photo shows current MN haircut left to dry naturally but I feel it just makes my face look longer and my forehead look massive. The center parting really doesn't help either but the fine hair means there's nothing left on one side if I move it over even an inch so looks very lopsided. I can style it into a side swept fringe but it ends up looking like a bad combover! Any suggestions?

I have nothing useful to add hair wise, being I a similar position myself but just wanted to say how beautiful you are. I'm also coming out of the other side with acne but am still cursed with red scars so like to hide behind my hair.

You look lovely. I think you would look great with a fringe. You just have to learn how to style it so it looks thicker. There are blowdrying techniques online that help. I use some xxl dry shampoo in mine and it thickens it up brilliantly. I also think a shoulder length bob would suit you along with the fringe.

I agree! A lovely longish, sideswept fringe...and a few layers. You suit long hair...a sideswept fringe needs to be cut in...a good hairdresser can do it.

maybe like this. Could add some ombre too!

Get a clip in fringe to try it out. Your hair is gorgeous. Perhaps trim it an inch or 2 but that's all. I've had amazing success with my super fine hair with fibrology shampoo and cutting out conditioner plus a quick blast as Batiste xxl.

I would LOVE to have Alexa Chung hair! But I just can't get the required volume to make it work. Fibrology shampoo has made a big difference to the lengths but I just can't seem to get volume to stay at the roots. My hair is just so limp, it won't hold a curl or a root lifting blow dry for more than 20 minutes. Clip in fringes/extensions etc are out too, even after using sticky root volumising powders they just slip out.

I've not tried batiste XXL though, I'll pick some up tomorrow and give it a go.

Your hair looks amazing, considering it is fine! I used to have long fine hair, and a full fringe, and I loved it, and it does work. How short do you want to go? You could try a Sienna Miller type bob? A few golden highlights would look lovely too.
