Woman has legs - shocker

I'm wearing a blush pink pleated chiffon skirt. It's very fashiony I know that 'cos I've seen them on pinterest. I have pants on me and the skirt has built in shorts that come to mid thigh for the sake of decency. My mum called in this morning and while here took me aside to gently let me know, just in case I didn't, that my skirt is "a bit see through". I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Where is your skirt from? I have been looking for one similar.

Greengardenpixie · 05/04/2015 14:09

Mums can be cruel! They can play on your insecurities. My mum does and has done many times. What did you say back? Maybe it is a bit see through but if it has shorts it should be fine?

CMOTDibbler · 05/04/2015 14:11

Well, tbh, I'd rather someone told me than find out later that something I thought was decent, wasn't.

KanyesVest · 05/04/2015 14:46

Sara, I got it in tk maxx, for half nothing. CMOT, you're right, but I do look decent Confused I checked a lot when I bought the skirt! Anyway, I decided to laugh... and bury the pain in chocolate...

Green, I looked slightly crest fallen and said "it's a chiffon skirt, it's going to be a bit see through. And I like it!" yes, I went for full maturity

You need an underskirt Easter Wink

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 05/04/2015 15:13

Wear hot pants next time she visits

Greengardenpixie · 05/04/2015 22:29

Ignore it and enjoy wearing it. I have to say, its the kind of comment i would have made too!!!

50ShadesOfSummer · 06/04/2015 07:15

Sounds fine to me if it has shorts underneath.

It may be a Mum thing. My mother has never said anything nice about anything I wear since she stopped having a say in it when I was about 16. If she had her way I'd wear some kind of floral maxi dress monstrosity, very little make-up and never dye my hair or paint my nails.

I know it shouldn't bother me (especially as I'm now over 40) but sometimes it does. My DH usually has to intervene and tell me to ignore her, that he thinks I look great, etc, etc.

SoupDreggon · 06/04/2015 07:23

She was just trying to be helpful Confused

EdithWeston · 06/04/2015 08:07

Morning, you say?

See through, like very shiny or sequins, only really go out at night (or on the pull), so perhaps it was just the wrong time or occasion.

specialsubject · 06/04/2015 10:47

I'm afraid heavy fashionista-ism will produce this kind of reaction. Was watching some detective drama where one of the characters was a very rich property tycoon, and was wearing a transparent blouse with a black bra underneath. From then on she was 'bra lady'.

perfectly decent, just looks silly to most of us. Your call though.

burnishedsilver · 06/04/2015 11:49

Maybe I'm picturing it wrong but your mother might have a point.
