Style intervention needed

Hi

I'm a mum of one toddler and desperately need a style overhaul. Generally I wear a mum uniform of- skinny jeans, plain/stripy t shirt, long cardi, scarf, boots. This was fine until I got to my DMs the other day and she was wearing this!

I'm 29, a size 8 and am not ready to be dressing like my mum (or for her to be copying me!!)

Please help, where can I start?

Have a look at Hush. I practically live in their stuff

Perhaps go for slightly edgier versions of what you wear now. Go to Topshop for jeans.

Yeah, it sounds as though you need edge. Probably avoid too much jersey/comfort wear - that's total Mum Zone.

A quick way of sharpening things up is to go to e.g. Claire's Accessories and by some on trend jewellery. Gold look is big right now. Large hoops and chains. If you don't fancy that then how about getting some skate-type shoes, rolling up the skinnies and ditching the breton stripes in favour of icon/lettering t-shirt?

Think the long cardi might need to stay home. Sorry.

Thanks ladies. Think I might need to get to Topshop, hard work trying to be stylish and practical!

Perhaps some biker boots? Comfy and flat. I think the thing is nowadays, fashion is more accessible at any age. I am 40 this year, but that's not going to stop me wearing Converse! My Mum is 65 now and doesn't wear a duster coat like my Nan did when she was the same age.

Icedfinger · 04/04/2015 22:42

I wear biker boots and converse! Yay!

Oh dear. I'm 52 and wear what your Mum wears......but I'd like to think I'm fashionable and suit it.

Funky trainers. Boyfriend jeans, rolled at the ankle. If you are 29 and a size 8 you probably have the legs for a button-through denim mini - v on trend.
Try a peasant blouse with your skinny jeans.

I will be wearing Converse forever Smile I think it's so easy to lose yourself when you have a baby, and especially when you are chasing a toddler about. Are you confident enough to wear shorts in Summer? There are some really nice short shorts about for then. Remember you will have upper arms to show off, so perhaps some vest/sleeveless tops too. I like unusual jewellery, such as Tatty Devine which makes an outfit more interesting.

I don't have the legs for shorts but will be trying peasant blouse and sleeveless tops are fine.

I think I always dress younger in the summer but struggle with autumn/winter.
