Acne Treatment

Hi everyone. Has anyone tried any effective acne treatments? I can't seem to find one that works for me or one where I can tolerate the side effects. Have recently been prescribed Lymecycline for 3 months. I was prescribed Roaccutane but was only on it for a month...hideous stuff. My acne is much worse around my time of the month so have tried at least 3 different type of the pill...nothing worked or made it far worse. If you've used Lymecycline or can suggest anything that has worked then let me know :) Thank you.

I had N-lite laser treatment for cystic acne on my chin. Antibiotics didn't help and I only wanted to try Roaccutane as an absolute last resort. I gave the laser treatment a go (I think I had 6 treatments around a month or so apart) and there was a significant improvement.

DS is on Roaccutane and it is a miracle cure for him. It is the drug of last resort and can take months to work properly. What does your dermatologist say about you only taking it for a month? He had a month on low dose and then 3 months on 55mg.

Roaccutane was amazing for me, but I'm currently breastfeeding, so I've just been prescribed Duac cream - it's doing a very good job so far. For the first time in AGES, I went out without make-up today.

I was prescribed Lymecycline in November. I came off it at the beginning of March. It definitely worked for me, but since I've come off I've had another breakout although that has coincided with TOTM and illness so hoping it's just that!

I've started following Caroline Hiron's routine too and have seen a noticeable improvement. Where I don't have problem skin it looks much plumper, scarring has reduced although not as quickly as I'd like and I'm sure my forehead wrinkle has become less prominent.

Hello all, thanks for your reply. My dermatologist wasn't happy about me only being on Roaccutane for a month but the side effects were horrible. I was crying all the time. My nose was bleeding and worse, it didn't matter how much I moisturised, make up application was impossible which with my skin like it is at the moment is not a confidence booster at all. I am going to try Lymecycline though for 3 months and I've decided if it doesn't work to maybe try a lower dose of Roaccutane? CremeDeSudo, some people have said that Lymecylcine doesn't work with hormonal acne? I'm glad it worked for you :)

I had a staph infection I think but hormonal too!

Ahh ok. Well I will give the Lymecycline a go. Thanks and thanks everyone again :) will update when I see some results, hopefully good ones!

I took Roaccutane too. Fantssic stuff and worth sticking with the side effects for a couple of months for the long term and permanent effects.

I have taken Lymecycline 3 times.
1st time - was on it for 2 months, worked on my acne which flared up after trying the oil cleansing method Hmm after clear skin for years on various pills (Dianette, Yasmin, Loestrin).
2nd time - a year or 2 later, acne came back randomly though nothing had changed, another 2 months of Lymecycline didn't work.
3rd time - fast forward to now - I came off the pill for a year (!!! worst idea ever) and have ended up seeing a private dermatologist in desperation for my skin to be nice for my wedding next weekend. I am currently on 3 months of Lymecycline, topical Isotretinoin (roaccutane active ingredient) and topical Duac, as well as Dianette. I'm 6 weeks in and it's working... I think! But this is a triple sided attack method on the spots...

I would add that the first 2 times I didn't get any side effects from the lymecycline (it's a strong antibiotic), but this time I really did. Not sure if it was triggered by stress, but I had an upset stomach for 2 weeks. I'm now taking probiotic tablets which I think are helping, but of course the side effects could have just gone away by themselves.

I haven't had any side effects that I've noticed on Lymecycline but I started taking probiotics for the last month I was on them and will continue to do so. I also take Omega 3 supplements and have just ordered some Agnus Castus as recommended on another thread (baa Grin)

Hibi scrub is brilliant, my dr suggested it after years of suffering from nodular acne. I now occasionally get a hormonal spot but nothing like I used to and most days I am now foundation free.
