Basic t-shirts for Spring

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/03/2015 18:17

I need plain t-shirts in black, grey and maybe navy. Good quality cotton, possibly with a bit of elastane. Not too short and boxy. Scoop neck. Maybe three quarter length sleeves. Real shops, not Primark or supermarkets. Not too expensive.

Lots of the ones I've had in the past go all short and wide after a few washes, and the neck line goes saggy - any that avoid that, please?

Thank you. :)

Following because I've looked for these tees every, single Spring for about the last fifteen years.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/03/2015 18:26

It's a nightmare, isn't it?

M&S Limited used to do really good ones, but they have stopped. :(

How about uniqlo?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/03/2015 18:35

Haven't got a Uniqlo, cba with online orders and tbh when I do go in there, I don't actually like anything anyway. Their stuff doesn't seem to work on me.

Thank you though. Sorry to be awkward.

Does anybody know what the Dotty P's ones are like? I like the shape of this

these are fab. Can highly recommend...

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/03/2015 18:47

Ooh had forgotten about Cos. I have one from there and the quality is good but it is far too big and the colour doesn't suit me. Should never have bought it!

Will deffo give those a go.

What size are you Remus? I'm a 14 and the large is quite capacious - but I wanted them a bit big rather than too fitted when I wear them on their own without another layer on top. I bought that style in 4 colours last week and have some from last year too - a good basic layer.

haggardoldwitch · 29/03/2015 18:55

Gap used to do perfect tee shirts; a small amount of stretch, just the right length, good plain colours, washed really well.
Sadly they've stopped producing them.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/03/2015 18:56

I'm a 12. Often in Cos even the Smalls are too big, weirdly. I will certainly try them on, but want fairly fitted.

Gap getting worse and worse, sadly.

QueenQueenie · 29/03/2015 19:02

Then you'd want t small I think..

PastPerfect · 29/03/2015 19:16

Marking place - also desperate for the right mix between stretch and gym top.

Gap dreadful for Tshirts IMO - actually think they always have been. Saggy and baggy and shapeless and yuk.

Next are often good if you like tight -as opposed to fitted - but definitely need the ones with Lycra and tbh I've not looked this year.

KanyesVest · 29/03/2015 19:28

I got a couple of nice ones in Wallis at Debenhams last year, short sleeved though. Don't have time to search now, but will try to remember to later...

mewkins · 29/03/2015 19:39

I got a lovely one in tk maxx the other day. It was actually from their own label (Arabella and Addison) and they had quite a few short and three quarter sleeves in lots of neutrals. Short sleeved were only £8 and the are lovely. Otherwise I suspect John Lewis do some decent own brand ones.

BikeRunSki · 29/03/2015 19:53

howies

BikeRunSki · 29/03/2015 19:58

Land's End t shirts aren't too bad if you want stretchy ones. But - I haven't bought any for 3 or 4 years, don't know what the wuslity is like at the moment.

I work outdoors and always bought my work cords from them, but bought some just after Christmas and the quality was dreadful.

WigfieldRocks · 29/03/2015 20:03

NoaNoa have some lovely basic t shirts at the moment

ElizabethHoover · 29/03/2015 20:30

the cos ones wont work as they are 100% cotton

ElizabethHoover · 29/03/2015 20:31

i find tops work better now. t shirts just make me look old. For work

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/03/2015 20:33

Not wanting work stuff - want t-shirts to wear with jeans, denim skirts, maybe shorts.

[www.boden.co.uk Boden] do nice basic t-shirt tops. Lots of lovely colours and I find them very good quality. I have Boden tops that have lasted for years.

KanyesVest · 29/03/2015 20:46

This is the Wallis one . Sleeves might be too short for you though.

TheImprobableGirl · 29/03/2015 20:50

Don't know if anyone's said remus But I'd be wary of Dorothy perkins unless they have a fair bit of elastane as they go baggy and shapeless fairly quickly. (within an hour or so of wearing post wash ime)
