I am replacing my lost one, I have a 1k budget.

I like white gold in 14k or 18k.

and really like this style here, i like all the little intricate patterns on the settings

but my budget is £1000, that is £500 over.

Any ideas? Been looking for weeks and I feel like I've lost my 'sight' over it. I'm just scrolling aimlessly now,

Look at secondhand and antique rings online

If you're need Birmimgham shop around the jewellery quarter

Have a look in the market style places in hatton garden if near london

Don't but from a high street jeweller

Barter!

BayMax · 28/03/2015 10:24

I wouldn't want a 2nd hand one but thankyou!

Hatton Garden in London and the Lanes in Brighton are good bets.

BreeVDKamp · 28/03/2015 10:27

Wow I thought you'd written that your budget was £14k or £18k!

No advice, sorry, but I love ring shopping! The one you linked to it gorgeous.

Oh, that's a shame. Was just about to link to a gorgeous Art Deco 1920s ring for £600 that you could get a new band for.

BayMax · 28/03/2015 10:29

No where near London unfortunately.

Still, you can still go to a proper jewellers who'll be able to make you a better qualify ring for that budget

Mouthfulofquiz · 28/03/2015 10:34

I would honestly go to an antique jeweller - that would probably only cost about £600. Or at least try some indepedant jewellery that you could barter down. 10% is the minimum you can expect to negotiate.

Mouthfulofquiz · 28/03/2015 10:38

Just to demonstrate the huge inflation of price on there: I bought a sapphire and diamond half eternity in 18carat gold for £300 that would retail on the hight street for around £900. you could get an amazing ring for 1k.

boxofissues · 28/03/2015 10:46

Yay I agree with that

I got a really great quality one carat emerald cut for £2k

A one carat on ermest jones is £3700. I bet the diamonds not nearly as good

Best of luck!

boxofissues · 28/03/2015 10:46

Yy not yay!

Lucked · 28/03/2015 10:50

this one? although it's mixed metal which not everyone likes.

Sleepyhoglet · 28/03/2015 11:27

What's wrong with second hand? You pay such a premium for new and I think older rings are more beautiful. But I suppose we are all different!

BayMax · 28/03/2015 16:28

Nothing is wrong with 2nd hand. I buy alot of used clothes, toys. Love a car boot and a charity shop rummage. But with my engagement ring I just want it to have been mine. I'd feel sad I've ended up wearing someone else's ring.

Even the Duchess of Cambridge had a second hand ring. Just saying.

GerbilsAteMyCat · 28/03/2015 17:53

Where is a good spot for second/vintage rings? I'm after a diamond/sapphire eternity ring.

Jenijena · 28/03/2015 18:00

I travelled three hours to the jewellery quarter in Birmingham and still made my money back. And got it (my wedding ring) custom made to my design. Well worth it...

pinkfrocks · 28/03/2015 18:00

I'd never have a 2nd hand ring - superstition or whatever- doesn't feel right for something so special and personal.

Essexgirlupnorth · 28/03/2015 18:02

If your near Manchester Jenny Jones in the exchange arcades has some beautiful rings new and vintage

pinkr · 28/03/2015 18:05

I'd love some links to gorgeous second hand as well

florascotia · 28/03/2015 18:06

Your local independent jewellers will probably have some very nice secondhand rings, or else will be able to find one for you. They are the experts, and can give good advice.

Otherwise, Carole Franks has some nice stuff www.carolefranks.com

In Scotland, there is James Ness, for example www.jamesness.co.uk/

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 28/03/2015 18:08

Not all 2nd hand rings are there because of breakups etc.

Some are because of upgrading to a better ring and exchanging the old, some are due to deaths and had a long lovely life with a happy couple.

I'd rather have something a bit unusual and not the same as everyone else's.
My ring is an Edwardian sapphire and diamond, old style cut. It's very glitzy and gets lots of comments as it's not a 'glassy' cut that is common these days.

DavenotChas · 28/03/2015 22:46

alba rose have excellent customer service and made my wedding ring, they're based in Essex I think.

squoosh · 29/03/2015 03:28

Ernest Jones is basically H Samuel isn't it? If I had £1500 to spend it definitely wouldn't be spent there (I wouldn't spend £50 there). You will not get value for money.
