East ponytail alternatives?

I have managed to coincide having longer than chin-length hair for the first time in my entire life with having an eight month old who seems obsessed with pulling it out in clumps. Consequently I mostly put it back in a ponytail, which looks scraggy and a bit dull. Has anyone got any easy but slightly more exciting alternatives? I've had a really short bob all my life so am at a loss as to how one deals with long hair. It's about collar-bone length, and I've got a fringe. Any ideas??

There are lots of ideas on Pinterest :)

You could wrap a piece of hair around the band to make it look more polished (one of my faves).

Half up half down

Half up, then put the lower half up underneath as well - if your hair isn't thick enough it might look ridiculous, but if it is thick enough it will make your ponytail look much longer. Nice for variety.

French braid

Irregular braid - just a plait with 2 thin strands and one thick, looks really cool but your hair might not be long enough.

Do 2 thin plaits at the side of your head, just above your ears (one on each side of head). Cross them over the top of your head and secure in place with a hair pin. Should look like a headband!

Put hair in ponytail, pull bits of hair from the top of your head back out of the band a bit to create a bit more volume on top.

Errrrm. Straighten or curl hair to make it look a bit more polished (my hair is kinky so if I put it in a pony it can look a bit slobby).

I usually do a little bump at the front, makes it look like ive been bothered. Also, with naturally wavy hair, it always makes for a smarter ponytail if I straighten my hair too.

Lots of ideas and gizmos on the Claires site

I normally have mine twisted up in a clip, which looks a bit more styled than a pony tail. I also cut myself a sweeping fringe courtesy of YouTube which adds a bit of elegance!

Hacked how do you do the bump at the front please?

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 27/03/2015 22:08

I take about 3 inches of hair (across) from the centre, about a half an inch thick. Back comb it on the reverse side, then sort of lay it back on itself and pin into place. Ill look for a video Grin

she does the back comb version in the second half and a one without at the start. I usually then have a ponytail in too, but if Im having a night out I leave my hair down.

I often do a waterfall braid (lots of tutorials on Youtube) on one side of my head, then put the rest up into a ponytail or bun.

Thank you Hacked. If I could end up looking anything like the girl I'm that video I'd be happy!!
