Grey highlights?

Would they be a very bad idea?

I am originally dark brown but my grey has been coming through thick and fast for well over 10 years. I now have to do my roots about once a fortnight and I'm losing the will to keep up to it. It's also different shades all over and really hard to get even.

My hair is in a long bob with a fringe. I don't want go short as it doesn't suit me can't bring myself to just let it go and have the stripe. I have never found a shade of blonde that doesn't look terrible on me.

I was thinking some dark grey highlights with a few fine silver. I'm 41 so don't want to look ancient. I'm also very pale but my mum looks terrific grey so I live in hope.

Any thoughts? Obviously in my head I'm going to look like Caryn Franklin.

I was wondering this too! How do you think the hairdresser would do them - a cap or foils (or whatever they call them!)?

Foils I would imagine. I haven't seen a cap in years.

My DSis is begging me not to do it Grin

I'm 44, and started to grey when I was 20.

My hair has been every colour under the sun (think blue/raspberry) because it's really easy to dye grey hair.

I've changed mine back to grey in 2 different ways.

First getting highlights, and toned different shades of ash, which means you don't get the dreaded line.

This time I got my whole head bleached then popped a silver dye on. So when it started to grow through there's no line at all. Grey/silver is really trendy just now.

Been wondering the same. Although I'm not dark brown. Was mousey but it's more gray that anything else now. Had an all over colour with highlights but the base was all wrong for me so recently had all over highlights. Still have yucky stripe now. Thinking next highlights will have lots if ash in them.

I saw a lady having her grey hair highlighted with a cap this week Smile I wanted to see what her hair looked like when done, but I was finished first!
A few years ago I had highlights (not on grey hair though) and they used something similar to foils but not foil, more like a white piece of plasticy paper with a clear piece and the hair was sandwiched between both.
