The perfect mascara for natural-looking fluttery lashes

I'm still on the hunt for the perfect mascara for fluttery lashes that look natural and not 'caked' in makeup/over-done. I really don't like the spidery/very obviously made-up look that mascaras like Benefit They're Real etc give.

I've tried a few and keep returning to the Clinique High Impact mascara (the one in the dark green tube). It is the best of the bunch but fairly expensive and not 'perfect'.

Looking forward to hearing your recommendations!

I just bought the new benefit one, think it's called roller lash. It is great, long and curled lashed but not spidery like they're real.

I've seen bloggers talking about it online - but I rarely trust their opinions as they usually have some vested interest (and I think were sent samples of the Benefit Roller lash - they've all been raving about it within the course of a couple of weeks). But great to know you've tried it and like it.

Other suggestions welcome too... Looking at a lower price range I've read good things online about various Maybelline ones?

And yeah, I really don't get the desire for thick, gloomy mascaras that clump your lashes together! It doesn't look good on anyone imho!?I'm fairly lucky and have quite dark longish lashes already so I really just want something that gives them a little extra oomph - but I find that lots of mascaras genuinely make my eyes look worse - and clump the individual lashes into just four or five 'spikes' Grim!

The No7 one in the gold tube is good, pretty natural and I don't end up with panda eyes as its a tubing mascara.

I am always on the lookout for a natural looking mascara.

My eyelashes are long and black. I want to enhance them, not look artificial and clumpy.

I am constantly buying mascara and then wiping most of it off on a tissue

The March issue of Elle has a free sample of the Benefit roller lash mascara if you want to give it a try OP. I must say I was hoping it'd do exactly what you describe but I still find it a bit clumpy. Will be interested to try some of the others suggested on this thread!

I'm really liking the No7 lash impact one. I pinched a sample that my mum had, and have now bought a full sized one. It has a lovely full brush - not a plastic one iykwim.

I've tried loads to get a natural but noticeable look and settled on No7 Lovely Lashes which I'm really pleased with - makes my lashes look longer and darker but not clumpy or too obvious.

I have a No 7 volumising mascara that gives me natural lashes. I prefer to get a bit more product on my lashes, though, so use Maybelline Stiletto lash mascara far more often.

I am so with you on hating spidery mascara! I used Clinique naturally glossy for years but think has been discontinued Now I have a bare minerals one which I quite like, and a clear mascara from Sephora which is very natural looking (and no smudging ever!)

I love Benefit They're Real and don't find it clumpy, but I agree Roller Lash is more natural and feathery-looking - I like it a lot.

Get the mascara from Superdrug called 'B. Longer lengthening and defining. It's one of the best mascaras I've had.

I second the No. 7 volumising one - I think the key is a proper bristles brush

This might also be the place to share a recent mascara revelation: I'm fair and have always used "brown black" mascara for a natural look. I was forced (by a lack of alternatives) to buy "noir embre" instead - it's soooo much more flattering ! It's a dark charcoal colour

Steer clear of Maybeline. I bought some in a panic last week and it's exactly what you're NOT after looks-wise! The best I've ever had was CODE VLM (?) a friend in a salon gave me one and it was amazing and lasted months. It conditions the lashes too so I swear mine grew longer. I can only find it online on QVC but know that some salons do sell it, around £16 I think.

My top mascaras are Maxfactor (lovely brushes, good definition without being spidery), Lancome (spendy but lasts ages) and Maybelline - they do a green and pink mascara that always gets rave reviews for being an 'essential' basic beauty product.

I'm using a cheap mascara from seventeen (the only waterproof brown mascara boots had!) and it's supprisingly good, but I always curl my lashes first, then apply mascara, then use a clean, dry mascara wand to seperate the lashes and remove clumps.

This is a bit left-field ... but, I read it on here and it works for me. I have long dark lashes, and just want them accentuated, without being in the least spidery or clumpy.

Anyway - it's as simple as using two different mascaras. It doesn't even really matter which ones they are, although if they have different types of brushes, this seems to help as well.

Apply coat 1 with one mascara, and then cost 2 with a different mascara. Voila, nice lashes.

Maybelline illegal lengths waterproof. It's really fab and excellent for definition. Doesn't budge and lasts all

Same here OP, reading this thread with interest. At the moment I'm using a Clarins one, it looks great on but its very liquid and tends to smudge a bit before it dries. I have to clean up with a cotton bud every day so it's too much of a faff.

Also had great success with the 17 range from Boots - very natural finish and no clumping ever

The Benefit Roller Lash was a magazine freebie last month - Elle? I think it's ok but still a bit spidery for my liking. I don't think I will buy it when the sample runs out. It makes my naturally long and curly (but very pale) lashes look a bit sparse. If I just do the underside of my lashes it's ok ish but it clumps when I try to do the top. Maybe it works better for short, stright lashes?

GOSH does a great mascara that gives natural fluttery lashes - (eye'deal) but they stopped selling in the UK a couple of years back. I'm still gutted about it as it was my HG mascara. I still have a wand that I wash out and sometimes use with other mascara's but it's not the same. I haven't found a good replacement yet so will be interested in reading the recommendations on this thread.
