£150 to spend on new clothes - help me

Having seen a previous thread, I thought I would ask for some advice.

I'm early 50's, 5ft nothing and size 12 (moving towards 14). Medium to big boobs and spare tyre(s) where my waist used to be - wow, I sound so attractive!
Anyway having not bought any new clothes for ages, I'm going to treat myself next month and need some advice. I'm a casual jeans type of girl, but am stuck in a rut. I used to like jeans & tunics (white stuff etc), but am bored with it, but don't know what to wear instead. I'm quite young looking (maybe mid 40's) and want something a bit young looking without looking like mutton dressed as lamb.

Can anyone please give me some ideas

There's another thread called something like '£200 to update wardrobe' - pop on there as there have been quite a few responses.

There are loads of blogs written by 40somthng stay at home mums who dress casually, have a look at them for ideas?
Some good ones to look at are: Susie So So, SchoolGateStyle, StyleGuile, Myfashonable40s

channie44 - Yes that's what inspired my thread. The op there is size 8/10 and a lot younger than me, so whatever is suggested for her, is not going to suit me.
Gillybobs - thanks for the blog links - I will have a good look at them tonight

Really bloody hard op, I feel the same if it helps. My wardrobe suits the size ten, younger, long haired me and not the size 12, older, cropped gray haired me. Do you like the rest of you, are you happy to keep hair/weight/make up the same?

chanie44 · 25/03/2015 20:22

Sorry OP.

The reason I suggested that thread was because there was some discussion about blogs and accessories.

For you, I'm thinking dresses. Like you, I'm 5ft with a thick middle. From memory, fat face has some nice dresses. I also saw some in joe browns that looked promising.

What about some cigarette trousers, with a nice fitted white shirt and a jacket? Or a classic Breton top. Maybe a nice scarf to bring the whole thing to life?

Thanks for the suggestions, I'm going to have a look in town tomorrow. I have enjoyed reading the blogs - though I'm still looking for one written by a short person.

Get fitted for good underwear first, start with the foundations and the rest will follow with a good hair cut and makeup.

Book a free personal stylist session at John Lewis or Debenhams etc and see what they suggest for you in terms of styles, colours et. You don't have to buy what they suggest but can use their ideas as a template when you go shopping elsewhere.

I'm 5ft2 and am also looking for ideas for short people. I'm 49 and have been a size 8 all my life but with big boobs. I seem to be getting a spare tyre thoughHmm and have to be very careful when dressing or I end up looking like a womble.
