Cheap alternative to Benefit High Beam?

Riri85 · 25/03/2015 11:27

Hi ladies,

Can anyone recommend me a decent quality but not budget breaking alternative to Benefit's High Beam? Have used it for years but my budget is now tight being on mat leave and am having to make some substitutions!

Barbara Daly Trade Secrets Dream Shine Highlighter £7.99
Similar colour and comes in a snazzy gold pump dispenser.
I am currently loving it Smile

Topshop do one called glow, it's more of a paste consistency and comes in a little pot. Think it was about £8, I was really impressed by it

RL20 · 25/03/2015 16:06

I'll echo the Topshop Glow. Heard lots of good things about it and hoping to purchase one soon myself

patchesmcp · 25/03/2015 16:46

I've not used Benefit's high beam but I use Technic High Light Highlighter and it's fab. It's a dupe for the high beam but is less than £3 delivered from Amazon.

frankietwospots · 25/03/2015 17:05

Another vote for Top Shop Glow! There are two shades, one goldy, one more peachy/pinky.

Fcukfifa · 25/03/2015 18:04

Topshops all over glow looks gorgeous, next on my to purchase list.

jjwhite · 25/03/2015 18:48

Hmm, for what it's worth I really didn't get on with the Topshop Glow (I think I had the one called 'polished'? or something similar at least...) The consistency is completely different to High Beam (it's a kind of cream rather than the more liquid consistency of the Benefit version). I also found it didn't sit properly on my skin - didn't blend or sink in as well as the Benefit version. That said, I still haven't found a good alternative to High Beam so will be watching this thread for other recommendations.

Fcukfifa · 25/03/2015 18:54

Was the one you had in a pot jjwhite?
The all over glow is in a metallic tube and is more of a liquid-y texture.

I'm not that keen on the high beam, found it quite drying and settled strangely on my foundation.

jjwhite · 25/03/2015 19:01

Yeah it wasn't the 'all over glow' but the 'Glow' pot with a white lid (I think these are two entirely different products). In any case I found the one I tried really not great, but clearly other people have really liked it - so it really does depend on the individual!

chanie44 · 25/03/2015 19:13

Patches - I'm going to order the technic dupe from amazon.

ZacharyQuack · 25/03/2015 19:21

Revlon Skinlights highlighter, the pink one is similar to High Beam.

caz1010 · 25/03/2015 20:13

OP I have pm'd you. Have a bottle in the bottom of my make up box I could send you Smile

Riri85 · 25/03/2015 20:37

Thanks all for the different suggestions-lots to consider! Had to do a double take at the Amazon alternative!Grin

Riri85 i'm happy to send you my High Beam. i keep trying it on my cheekbones and brows but i just can't get it to work for me. There's most of it still in the jar. If you would like it you're welcome. If you want to pm your address or an address I can send it to, I'll post it out to you.

RL20 · 26/03/2015 09:31

RiRi85 do you have a Bodycare shop near you? The technic make-up range is available in there. I didn't actually know it was available on Amazon until I seen that comment.
I see the range as cheap and cheerful but personally don't get on with the highlighter myself. But I also haven't used Benefit High Beam so they could be totally similar, I wouldn't know!

Pumpkinette · 26/03/2015 10:19

I have a bottle of highbeam and it's lasted forever. I think it must be about 4 years old I know it's too old but I'm too cheap to chuck it out and buy a new one I think it was good value for money considering how long it lasts. My bottle is still two thirds full. How long does it last everyone else? I just use a small amount and it goes a long way.

Sorry no suggestions of cheaper alternatives - just wanted to stick my oar in.

Lynne2015 · 26/03/2015 11:14

I use tecnic highbeam which is fantatsic and costs 3, here is a couple of links comparing to benefit, I prefer to to benefit over-inflated prices

patchesmcp · 26/03/2015 15:17

chanie - let us know how you get on Smile

Riri85 · 26/03/2015 19:54

RL-don't think there is a Bodycare shop near me unfortunately! But thanks to the lovely ladies of MN my problem has been solved by their generosity! Bodycare sounds good though if they stock lots of alternatives to more expensive products?

Riri85 · 26/03/2015 19:55

Lynne-thanks for the links!
Pumpkin-my Highbeam lasted me for at least 4 months!

RL20 · 27/03/2015 09:29

RiRi85 yes there are dupes of tan, Eyeshadows, and a few other bits!

chanie44 · 27/03/2015 11:14

Patches - I will let you know how I get on. It should be here in a couple of days.

I have a sample of benefit high beam, which I occasionally use and its one of those products that is so subtle, it's not worth spending much on.

chanie44 · 02/04/2015 11:34

Patches - my technic high lights arrived today.

I've tried it on and am happy with it. I see highlighters as one of those 'take it or leave it, products, so I'm pleased I can get it at such a good price.
