Going for MAC consultation - any must have product recommendations?

I'm booked in for an express appointment on Friday so not having full face done. I'm interested in their Face and Body so want to get colour matched properly. While I'm there, I'm planning to have a bit of a play with other products, specifically lipsticks and blusher. I've never used MAC before apart from one eye shadow someone bought me. Any thing you would recommend? If it helps, I have dark hair, pale skin with rosy tones and blue eyes, skin type is dry and dehydrated.

Thanks Smile

I wouldn't bother with their skincare. A friend of mine is quite high-up and says there are far better products on the market (eg Clinique).
Their foundations are lovely and they'll do a colour match for your lipstick, and show you how to put it on properly.

Thanks Tuck, Im happy with my current skincare so wasn't looking for any of their skin products. Foundation and lippy is definitely what I'm after!

Hi Lottapianos.
If you have rosey tones I'm guessing they will match you to an 'NW' in foundation, which is more pink than yellow.
Their concealer is great for full coverage!
I use Studio Fix Fluid but wanting to try the Face and Body so let me know how you get on!
Their lipsticks are a must. There's so much choice even if you do just stick in the safe zone like me, and only go for nudes.
I have also had the fluidline liner (can't remember exactly what it's called) which is very pigmented.
I've tried Studio Sculpt foundation but didn't get on with the consistency as I felt it was too 'gel' like.
I am wanting to try one of their blushers!
I've heard good things about the translucent finishing powder too.

Have fun!

The Mineralise Skinfinish Natural powder. It never ever looks cakey. Lots of brides use it on their wedding days as you can really whack it on and it still looks natural.

I'd avoid the Studio Fix line if you're dry - its better for oily skins.

My fave blusher is Warm Soul which is actually a pinky-nude and definately one you'd skip over in the display. Even though I'm pink and fair like you, I lurve it. There's enough pink in it to not look muddy and it goes with everything.

Oh and my fave other product is for the eyes: its the Paintpot in Vintage Selection. Its basically a champagne nude shimmer cream eyeshadow which you can smear on haphazardly everyday and look vaguely polished.

Thanks folks, glad to hear good reports about the lipsticks and will investigate Warm Soul too

I always have mac strobe cream to hand as a really subtle highlighter, can also mix with foundation for a subtle glow

plentyofshoes · 25/03/2015 15:10

I second the powder and blusher.

Lipsticks are fab. I have an amplified one, feels lovely on and strong colour, guess it's one of these highly pigmented things!

Clarabumps · 25/03/2015 16:24

Mac Prolongwear concealer,
Any lipstick really but my favourites are Brave, Ravishing, Lady danger, Creme de Nude, Angel.
I also like Prolong Paint Pot in soft ochre for an eyeshadow base.

I love Mac lipstick in Asian Flower.

I second the Warm Soul. It transforms my bleary face at 0630. I quite like the Mineralise Foundation and think they picked a good colour for me (pinky Celtic skin with red patches). Best of all I love the eye shadows and how to blend. I use Jest or Vanilla as a base and Satin Taupe, then a smidge of Blackberry in corners. They do a great eyeshadow primer called Painterly which keeps your eyeshadow in all day- literally.
Lipsticks- great colours but they don't stay on longer than your first sip of coffee. And are about £15?

I always go back to strobe cream - no matter how hard I try to be unfaithful to other brands :)
