Is there such a thing as a unisex or 'manly' beach bag?

We are off on holiday soon and will spend every day on the beach or by the pool. Last year I took my lovely big stripy beach bag but dh hated carrying it (sometimes he really had to if the dc wanted me and only me). I also washed my 'nice' bag and it fell apart a bit so we really need a new one.
Can anyone recommend a fairly large robust bag that isn't too girly in design or colour?
Tia

This is in the men's section so should be considered manly enough for him! Just avoid the pink one Wink!!

Eatsleepwork · 24/03/2015 11:33

Ooh I like those! I do like the pink one though Wink
He wants to bring his big hiking rucksack for the beach... Sigh

Just read this to DH who thinks you are a wonderful caring wife. He has carried girly, sparkly beach bags all over the world!! He says I buy them on purpose and he's probably rightGrin .Good luck with your search.

My dh will be sporting this beach bag in May!

I have an old blue and brown beach bag from the Old Bag Company which is wonderful. However, their bags are all in oilcloth now, and shiny and I don't like them so much but here's the link www.theoldbagcompany.co.uk/Header-Content/Bags/Charlotte-Weekend-Bag-Commemorative

Thabks, lots of fab ideas!
I'm not really a good wife as its for slightly selfish reasons- if he carries the big, heavy, damp bag it makes life much easier for me when at least one dc will only walk/ be carried/ be pushed by me! I don't want a rucksack as its not 'holiday' enough Smile- despite having several suitable in the cupboard...

I don't get why it has to be manly? Nobody's going to think it's his. It's obvious that he is carrying the family bag.
Here's a unisex one:

why wouldn't you use a rucksack, rather a stupid fashion thing that doesn't fasten and will fall apart rapidly? Those totes also look really heavy, adding useless weight.

a rucksack with a hip belt spreads the load properly, rather than a tote which puts your back out of line. Oh, and a rucksack leaves hands free.

If he has the rucksack you can deal with one of the kids and he's got both hands free to deal with the others. Obvious?

Any of these any good?

Surf brands are probably your best bet. (And I agree with specialsubject if he wants a rucksack, have one).

My DH uses an Ikea bag, but then neither of us is very stylish.

Eatsleepwork · 24/03/2015 17:24

It doesn't have to be a manly bag but I would like to use a beach bag and it would be nice if dh didn't object to carrying it (he does and will carry it even if it is girly btw)
I don't want him to bring his rucksack because it is huge with a frame on the back and would have to fit in our suitcase, which will be rammed full of other things. A beach bag folds up small and is easy to put stuff in/ take stuff out. Plus I would like a proper beach bag (the ones I've had in the past do zip and have pockets in them so no less secure than a ruckscak) Smile

We have one of those big Sports Direct bags. DH has no qualms lugging that around.

elQuintoConyo · 24/03/2015 22:48

Ikea bag plus one or two bags-for-life. A rucksack as well, if necessary. It's what everyone here uses.

I can't honestly see why you'd need to butch up a beachbag. It's a beachbag.

I got a huge TAMPAX tote a few years ago with some promotion or other -want me to post it over?

elQuintoConyo · 24/03/2015 22:51

Bugger me, one of those bags linked was £45 Shock for sand, spades and leaky cream?

SoMuchForSubtlety · 24/03/2015 22:51

This?

SoMuchForSubtlety · 24/03/2015 22:53

Or this?
