Supermarket clothing

Is it just me or is some supermarket clothing really good in terms of quality and design?

I have recently realised that Sainsburys items aren't just good for kids, but that there are some good old fashioned thick cotton shirts and tops, with nice designs.

Some of my best work trousers came from Asda, and some PJs from Tesco.

Is it that the supermarkets have stepped up where the high street has left off, or have they always been good and I've never really realised?

Sometimes you can find a real bargain but it's rare. Asda is great for things like tights, basic pants, PJ'S, slippers, casual thirty. Not so good for tailored stuff, shoes very hit and miss and usually a miss. Accessories look a bit, well, supermarket in my opinion but I've seen some nice winter coats.

NoRockandRollFun · 25/03/2015 10:28

Asda is good for kids stuff but the fabrics, prints and colours just put me off the grown up clothing. Far too much polyester for me.

I bloody LOVE Sainsbury's clothes. Yesterday I was clad top-to-toe in the lovely stuff, and got compliments on both my dress and my boots. From people who are both moderately stylish, and not visually impaired.

They're the clothes I get the most comments about generally, in fact. This may be because all the rest of them are bits of ancient tat from Gap, charity shops, etc, but it justifies me chucking in the odd tshirt/coat/scarf/dress with the occasional big shop.

Love Sainsburys too Grin though I bodyswerve the GokWan stuff.

I bought an ivory blouse today {very nice} I was tempted by a black/white thin cardigan but resisted.

I need to get some smartish trousers for a work meeting, will browse back in there.

TShirts are good

I am wearing a necklace today that I bought from Sainsburys on Saturday. OK I work in a small office now but every single woman has said how lovely it is.

I've not bought Tesco or Asda clothing for years - don't live near an Asda now (and don't like Tesco) but bought lots of cheap baby clothes maybe 6 or 7 years ago and they didn't last well. Quality might have improved though recently.

Have bought lots of Sainsburys stuff (not a massive choice) but it is fab value (even better when its 25% off) and some of it has been through 2 children and still looks good.

I bought a bracelet from Asda and have worn it for the last couple of Christmases. It's very glitzy.
I've lost count of the number of times people have complimented me on it and it only cost £3!

My more expensive stuff never gets compliments. Annoying really.

Raided Sainsbos yesterday at the 25% off event. Got a few lovely tops, one with umbrellas one, some nice loungewear, a scarf, school summer dresses for DD (£3!) and mix n match summer stuff for DD. All brill.

Talisin · 02/04/2015 21:25

Got a couple of dresses (blue and white stripe, Pretty Woman spotty type one), a long summer(ish) cardigan in off-white and this top, which is utterly gorgeous. Also some clip-on earings which are rare as hens teeth and all at 25% off - bargain!

Sleepyfergus · 02/04/2015 21:40

I bloody love Sainsburys for their kids clothes. Although, I think they seem to have less than they used to. I struggled to find something for Dd1 yesterday - trying to make the most of the 25% off!)

I find their kids range can sometimes be a bit hit or miss, but have over the years picked up some stunning stuff that looks Bodenesque/ Joules like and has been commented on lots. Their footwear for girls is also fab, DD1 has worn their faux leather boots for 3 years running now and they last lots longer than clarks for a fraction of the price.

And hair clips.....I've lots count of the number of hair clips we've bought over the last 3-4 years!

Also recently discovered Nutmeg clothes which is Morrisons own line. Had some fab skirts and their kids undies/vests are great quality. I bought a tshirt for dd1 yesterday which is a pastel ice cream pink with pastel sunglasses x 3 on it. It is so soft, and so pretty and the price? £2.50. What's not to like?!

Is still also rate H&M and Gap though. H&M prices on a par with supermarkets and I only really buy Gap during the numerous sales so it doesn't end up being too bad.

ZaraW · 03/04/2015 09:14

I never buy from supermarkets to me they are for food shopping only. I want to enjoy the experience of buying clothes and doing that in a supermarket just doesn't do it for me.

almahart · 03/04/2015 16:05

I've got my best pj trousers ever from sainsburys. Also some v good boys clothes over the years

RL20 · 03/04/2015 16:25

Have had some lovely baby clothes from Asda and Sainsburys.
I also get my best black leggings from Asda.
It's convenient being able to do the food shop and also have a sneaky look at the clothes at the same time Grin

NumTumDeDum · 03/04/2015 16:45

I've just bought three pairs of shoes, with 25% off that's me sorted for footwear for the year.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong then because I never see anything I would wear in asda or tesco. I have bought the odd thing in the past but when I had a wardrobe cull a few years ago, I chucked all the supermarket stuff because it looked like cheap tat.
