Mom Jeans - allowed?!

My friend looked pretty awesome in her Topshop 'mom' jeans and I am sooooo bored of my skinnies. I have a summer of breastfeeding a newborn ahead so no dresses, and was wondering if I could pull off mom jeans as I am a) over 30 (31), b) over a size 10 (14) and c) ACTUALLY a mum (of 2)?!

I fear the answer is no. I lack the necessary irony? (And tiny proportions to make them look ok?) x

What exactly are 'mom' jeans??? To me, that would mean those badly cut elastic-waisted, high-waisted, stonewashed jeans with roomy, slightly baggy bottoms and a nastily tapered leg that you see worn with blinding white runners and a University of Oxford sweatshirt on a certain kind of US tourist.

But I suspect you mean something else...

Well - LadyGregory, you're not too far off.... but they tend to be worn cropped at the lower ankle (which flatters) worn with a trendy girly brogue and a nice expensive shirt (at least this is the look I like). But I don't know if they also MUST be worn with a healthy dose of irony, which I, given my mother-of-two-in-her-thirties status, sadly lack.

See here on the Topshop website.

I think the darker colours take some of the mumsyness away.

I have the topshop Mom jeans and I am 46. Comfiest jeans I own. I wear mine rolled up with Doc Marten shoes or my NB trainers. I was wearing them when I got asked for ID last week so can't look too frumpy or mumsy in them!
My mum liked them so much she bought them too. She wears hers with brogues and also with turn ups.My mum is 64 and looks great in hers.

To me they're just a high-waisted, peg-cut boyfriend jean - the name is meaningless. I love them and think they're super-flattering, particularly if you have a small waist. I do think you need to wear either something that tucks in or a top that just sits on the waistband with them though, otherwise (on me) they don't look right. Mine were a real staple last summer with tucked in Breton tops, and either brogues and bare feet, Converse or flat sandals, and in winter I've been wearing them with tucked in blouses and rolled up to just on top of Chelsea boots.

I couldn't wear mom jeans in a million years, but that's because my legs are about 2 inches long. They look great on some people.
