Is laser hair removal treatment worth it?

Hi,

I've been considering laser hair treatment for my face for a while. I have dark hair and light skin. Is it worth it? (Total cost appears to be around £700 for face and neck)

Thanks!

It's not permanent.
They say it is but it isn't

I've had it and it was a lot of money for temporary results.
I have bought a Philips home version. Much much better.
I get a good result, I can do it at home and so it's better value.

I love my lumea. I can't see why you would pay £700 at a slob for it!

HungryDam · 21/03/2015 14:49

Does the home one work on the face too?

Yes I have got the model that has a different attachment for the face.

HungryDam · 21/03/2015 14:51

Pagwatch, sorry to hear that. Did you have IPL or laser?

LittleBairn · 21/03/2015 14:52

Pagwatch how long did it last?
Even a 6-12 months might be worth it for me.

Pagwatch · 21/03/2015 14:53

Yes, several of them do.

Just goggle lumea. There are different models.

The one I have has different heads for different areas and strength settings.

They are really good.

I did two course with two different salons. Both about £400 from memory.

It lasted a few months -again from memory.
The more expensive one was better but they gradually increased the intensity in order to be careful that I didn't react (which was fair enough) and you have to have a series of treatment with time enough in between to catch the re-growth so it takes ages.

It's a bit of a no brainer for me to be honest.

HungryDam · 21/03/2015 15:08

Thanks Pag! How often do you now do it at home with the lumea?

God, I'm generally rubbish and I've not been well so I just kind of do it when I remember at the moment. Probably every three weeks while I'm still doing regrowth?
You have to do it less and less as the hair gets more and more sparse.

TwoLittleTerrors · 21/03/2015 17:20

I started doing it every 3 weeks iirc (whatever is recommended on the box). Now 3 years on, I probably retouch twice a year for arms And legs, and every 2-3 months for underarm and bikini line. And there is very little regrowth, a few stragglers.

TwoLittleTerrors · 21/03/2015 17:21

I can't recommend it enough. I used to shave every other day.

HungryDam · 22/03/2015 07:12

Two, which laser machine did you use?

OP posts:
mowglik · 22/03/2015 09:15

That sounds amazing two how far in on your bikini line did you go? I get a Hollywood wax and probably can't replicate that with a laser but would like to minimise that area as much as possible!

I started a year course of laser years ago and did 3 treatments (monthly) before the clinic went bust. It was full body so the hair on my legs and underarms are actually greatly reduced and look pretty sparse but obviously not completely gone after just 3 treatments. I would say about 30-40% which was still great for such little effort.

Looking into a home machine now

TwoLittleTerrors · 22/03/2015 09:19

hungry I have a Philips lumea.

mowglik umm a Hollywood might indeed be difficult. You need to shave first and then put the lumea on the surface and press a button. But I haven't tried as I only do the outline, ie what you can see outside a bikini. But then if a salon said they can do it, there isn't a reason you can't with a bit of practice.

itsbetterthanabox · 22/03/2015 13:12

If you want permanent hair removal then electrolysis is a better option for the face.
Laser hair removal is just reduction.
