Boyfriend jeans

I treated myself to some boyfriend jeans yesterday having been wearing skinnies for ages and getting a bit bored of them. Am planning to wear them with slouchy jumpers/converse type shoes in the Spring and vests/Blazers/kimonos/sandals in the summer.

The issue is that they have strategically places rips/tears which I know Is very 'down the kids' at the moment. Wink. I've just turned 41. Am I kidding myself? Should I have bought intact Grin boyfriend jeans???

I bought a few pairs of those cuffed ankle baggies last year from New Look and loved them and wore them to death. Every single time I wore them DH asked why I had my joggies on. Grin

I just bought some from zara to replace all the ripped ones from last summer. I've gone for distress free ones this time. I'm a bit over the jeans with rips thing.

Gawd! I'm soooo 2014.

I'll get my bootcuts..... Wink

Grin I didn't mean it in that way at all!

Just that i am fed up of seeing rips and have rips in almost all my jeans (mostly through the age of them) and would now just like a pair that I don't put my foot through every time I put them on Wink

I have just bought some flares that I love, love, love

MintChocAddict · 18/03/2015 13:15

Wink Grin

I'll buy my flares next year.

I do have a pair of flares from approx 2008 when there was a passing 70s thing going on, but unfortunately my waist to height ratio has changed somewhat since then. Cake

I'm in my 40s too and I feel that ripped jeans don't look good on me. It looks like I'm trying too hard. I'd always pick the intact version.

StandoutMop · 18/03/2015 14:55

My boyfriend jeans have just gained a hole, old age rather than designer intent. I am still wearing them but if it spreads I think it will have to be goodbye.

I also had some distressed skinies but have put my feet through the holes / frayed bits so many times they are now less distressed and more ruined.

Lesson I have taken from this is jeans you buy with holes in will last a lot less time than intact ones. Limited budget means I'm returning to more solid jeans for now.

Really want dark blue flares but not yet had the time required to hunt and try on a million pairs to find the one.

Is the issue here with boyfriend style jeans, or the rips? There's no denying ripped jeans are really in fashion at the moment so if you were looking for investment jeans to last years, it probably wasn't a good buy. But they're not going anywhere for the next few months/year, so if you like them wear them as much as possible and get your moneys worth.

As to your age, 41 is not too old. If you want some style inspiration going into summer outfits, have a look at the theyallhateus instagram, I'm probably doing her a disservice as she may not be 40, but Tash Sefton is not in her 20s and practically every outfit she wears features ripped jeans, sometimes there's more rip than denim! (Oh, and also ignore all the designer clobber and gorgeous Australian weather, endlessly long tanned legs of her business partner etc etc!)

The Hush ones are nice, and they only have one little distressed patch on the hip.

Very soft and comfy.

noddyholder · 18/03/2015 17:36

I am 49 and wore some today no rips though. Wore them with white broderie blouse and black and white flat lace up shoes New look really comfy and good fit

namechange2468 · 18/03/2015 18:59

Where have you been getting your boyfriend jeans from?

I have tried a few (Hush - too short, Mint Velvet - wrong fit, Gap - huge, Sainsburys - huge and bagged after 10 mins).

mooth · 18/03/2015 20:57

Listen. You feel good in them. Wear them, please. I wear anything that I feel good in, and that I think looks good on me. And - I'm 45! And I think I look pretty hot!

ClaraDeLaNoche · 18/03/2015 21:05

Wear them, you will look great. DH hates my boyfriend jeans. First time I wore them he asked if my boyfriend was an impoverished oversized farmer. And the same comments with the harem pants!

Bonsoir · 18/03/2015 21:09

Like noddyholder, I am in my late 40s and wore boyfriend jeans today - in my case with a white Equipment silk shirt with insect motifs and with green trainers and a green oversize coat. I was accompanying DD to an admissions test for a Y7 place and felt appropriately dressed.

MintChocAddict · 18/03/2015 21:33

Thanks all. Feeling every bit of my 41 years at the moment and that I've kind of lost my way a bit clothes wise.
They weren't expensive so will give them a go and if young hipster types point and laugh I'll buy a big box to put over my head! Wink
