Money will be really tight for a while. Can anyone recommend any cheap toiletry or beauty products they genuinely feel are good. I'm mainly thinking of things like shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, shower gel, body lotion, deodorant, feminine care, face cleanser and moisturizer, spot treatment for DD.

If you can find an Avon rep near you, their clearance stuff is really cheap. Shower gels and shampoos for £1, decent cleanser for a couple of quid.

Particular recommendations from the current sale book:
Argan oil shampoo & conditioner £1.50 each
Spf 20 clear spray sunscreen £3.50
Skin so soft body moisturising gel £1.75.

I've used all of these (my sister is a rep) and the quality is fantastic for the price. Free delivery too. Smile

I use Sainsburys basics for everything, and for my makeup I use boots natural collection. All very very good x

Thisishowyoudisappear · 18/03/2015 12:52

Coconut oil, I decant into different containers.

Palmer's, when on 3for2. The SPF 15 body lotion is great value.

Sanitary towels and tampons - Lidl! I still use Always Ultra night time towels but compact tampons and towels from Lidl are excellent and very cheap. Lidl own brand body lotion and deodorant, not so good.

SuperFlyHigh · 18/03/2015 13:05

Sainsburys sanitary towels are better than Boots ones for me.

Sainsburys also do a super cheap under £1 big bottle of shower gel or cream that lasts ages. Waitrose own shower gel/cream is also nice.

I have cleansed in past with johnsons baby lotion. Absolutely fine.

Got some Bargains in wilkos a Schwarzkopf Moroccan oil spray and agree re poundland. Also SIL swears by alberto balsam for shampoo and conditioner.

BallsToThat · 18/03/2015 13:05

YY to Superdrug own brand facial products - especially the Vitamin E stuff. The Vit E hot cloth cleanser, eye cream and night cream are all very good.

Sainsbury's have got a deal on Nivea skincare at the moment. I got a day cream with SPF and a night cream for £2.50 each.

I always buy body lotion and shower gel according to whats on a lat price or BOGOF deal, to be honest.

Or get a big tub of coconut oil from Amazon and use it as a body moisturiser, oil cleanser for face, make up remover and deep conditioner for hair. Great stuff.

SuperFlyHigh · 18/03/2015 13:08

mrsgiraffe I agree re boots natural collection, their concealor, blusher and eyeliner is great (mascara not so).

If you use panty liners I've tried body form that are ok but cheaper not as good as Allways but cheaper so will use for now.

Consider talc for deodorant replacement and baby stuff/basics cheaper than beauty stuff. I don't use pleats but they'd work out cheaper than pads/cotton wool balls.

barelyme · 18/03/2015 13:49

I love lidl body lotion big white and blue bottle. Very cheap :D

Passthecake30 · 18/03/2015 14:04

Superdrugs body butter - £1.99 a tub, I like the lilac one, its very thick and creamy, just as good as the Body Shop

JiltedJohnsJulie · 19/03/2015 17:13

Lots of hairdressers have commented on the fab condition of my hair, I always use Lidl shampoo, big bottle, dirt cheap and Avon
Advance Techniques 360 Nourishment Moroccan Argan Oil Leave in Treatment.

BornToFolk · 19/03/2015 17:21

I really didn't like the Aldi body lotion. I tried the one in a blue bottle, like Nivea but it was really sticky and didn't sink in. But it was less than 1 a bottle so no great loss! And all the other Aldi skin care products that I've tried have been brilliant, especially their face creams.

Have you got a Savers near you? They are great for basic toiletries, toothpaste etc and you sometimes get good bargains on higher end stuff, for example I bought some Naked shampoo and serum for 1 each recently.

Pippidoeswhatshewants · 19/03/2015 17:27

Dd uses Alberto Balsam shampoo and conditioner, and her hair is lovely. Currently 4 bottles for £3 in Sainsburys.

Sainsbury's own hand wash is nice, too.

TrulyTurtles · 19/03/2015 17:34

Waitrose toiletries. My lot love the shower gels and bath stuff, but I've gone even cheaper and got their soap, ginger and something fruity, lasts ages, about a quid for 6 bars and my skin is lovely and soft. Also like their pure range, unscented but lovely. Not tried their shampoo, but will next time.

Happy36 · 19/03/2015 17:35

Superdrug own brand Vitamin E products are excellent. Also you could try all of the counters in your department stores for free samples of skincare and makeup products.

dansmum · 19/03/2015 20:11

Hubby works away a lot. I used 'Hospitality blend' (aka all his hotel freebies) for about a year, only bought good conditioner and prices cocoabutter for skin.asked for 'nice' toiletries forxmas/birthday;/mothers day etc

neversleepagain · 19/03/2015 20:15

Aldi deoderant. It is great, doesn't leave white marks and only 89p! I don't know why I spent £3+ on deoderant in the past.

KateBuryUK · 19/03/2015 20:17

Simple Soap, shampoo etc from superdrug. it's inexpensive and does not irritate or dry one's skin.

NeverNic · 19/03/2015 20:18

Lidl's Q10 night cream has had really good reviews from make up artists. I haven't tried it but noticed it was less than £2 when I was there this week. Will try it next time.

I always use Right Guard 24hrs deo. Usually half price in the supermarkets. It's a large bottle, works great for both hubbie and me and he's a large rugby player.

Boots tea tree spot treatment is good and often 3 for 2. I also like the Botanics stuff and you can tend to mix and match the beauty offers.

Wilkinson is also great for offers.

RavioliOnToast · 19/03/2015 20:52

I recommend e.l.f for makeup and also superdrug MUA range.
Nivea soft moisturiser.
Another vote for superdrug vitamin e range.
Primark eyeliner and lashes £1 each.
Also primark face wipes are really good
good.

mousmous · 19/03/2015 20:55

bar of soap an nivea cream :o

HiawathaDidntBotherTooMuch · 19/03/2015 21:02

Ditch the shower gel. Replace it with bar soap. It will last you way, way longer.

Fulham23Fc · 19/03/2015 21:06

NeverNic,
I use Lidl Q10 day cream. And having used Nivea Q10 in the past I can honestly say there is no difference and Lidl's is a fraction of the price.

alison6692 · 19/03/2015 21:06

Hi

I have a few little bargains that I have found recently

Boots primrose moisturising cream £2.89 - really good moisturiser and great price.

I like to treat myself to Aussie shampoo when its on offer. Smells lovely and I think worth paying a bit extra for.

I love Rimmel foundation - most of them are great value. Really don't think its worth spending for a more expensive brand.

Also I have started using Max Factor Masterpiece Mascara and its really good - even better its £9.99

LMGTFY · 19/03/2015 21:17

Aldi's q10 cream is fantastic, especially the night cream. I found stick deodorant lasts longer than spray so that saves spending so much. Also realised this year that no matter how yummy the shower gel smells, I usually put perfume on anyway (next 'knock off' perfumes take off many top brands really well) so smelly shower gel is actually a waste of money.

TheresaMayNot · 19/03/2015 21:18

Colgate Total, which my dentist says is the bees' knees of toothpastes and he's assured me he's not on commission, is only 99p in the 99p shop (funnily enough) for 100ml. It's at least £1.50 everywhere else.

Also agree about using bar soap not shower gel.

pinkisthenewpink · 19/03/2015 21:59

Lidl's day and night cream is very good. Cien brand. £2 for 50ml. I think it feels very thick and luxurious without feeling heavy or greasy (I'm mid 40s normal skin if that helps). Feels as nice and moisturing on my skin as clarins. Time will tell I guess!

L'oreal lash architect mascara very good too. Better than a benefit one I had.
