Shoes to go with a red dress?

I've got a wedding to go to in May, and have seen a red dress that I like. It's a good shape and colour on me, but I can't work out what shoes to get. Dress sits on the knee; I have good shapely legs but my calves are wide and my ankles are slim so things with an ankle strap aren't great (although things like t-bars are ok if they are below my ankle bone, iyswim).

What colour and style would you suggest? Thanks!

Black and white goes with red.

This is the dress: www.carolinadressroom.co.uk/vanessa-wiggle-red-or-black-11450-p.asp I haven't ordered it yet, so of course it could be a disaster! But the shape looks right (I am a size 12, proper hourglass) and red is a very good colour on me. Now I'm looking again though I'm wondering if it's a bit OTT for a wedding Confused. No good asking DH because I KNOW what he'll say Grin

no its great ,

SoMuchForSubtlety · 16/03/2015 21:38

Lovely dress. Definitely something leg elongating that doesn't draw attention away from the dress. I'd stick with plain and neutral, not black.

flippineck · 16/03/2015 21:45

ReekyPear - thanks, but I'm not sure the ankle strap on those would work very well on my legs.

Laska4 - I don't think I have ever worn anything leopard print in my life, but actually I could see how that might work!

Great dress. I'd like this type of shoe with it.

I like the leopard print idea. I've seen that combination in a magazine. Otherwise what about a metallic colour? Gold silver or multi coloured glitter?

Twinklestein · 17/03/2015 14:24

Great dress, def not those ghastly leopard print shoes.

It's a tight dress, quite low cut, no sleeves, I would go with some quite demure shoes, probably black.

I think Kate Middleton + Aintree Ladies' Day has nuked nude shoes.

Ellisisland · 17/03/2015 14:32

I have a very similar dress in red that i am wearing to a wedding and I have these shoes to go with it

Leopard print would look great with that dress.
Gorgeous dress by the way.
love these but main colour is red and might clash. You have time to get them and send them back if not OK
New look cheap and cheerful
black and white version - bit different

cathyandclaire · 17/03/2015 15:56

Like the leopard idea, you could channel Dita :)

I love leopard shoes ( might even have one or two pairs) but with that dress I think they would be a bit ott.
Black and white might work better or another colour with a bit of red on such as navy blue

ShoesieQ · 17/03/2015 16:49

Gorgeous dress - you'll look stunning! Just hope you don't out-glam the bride............ Smile

As for shoes, navy or if you're feeling brave cobalt would work. Or you could try pewter, or perhaps a black patent, which would look fab with a little black bolero top. Am a bit over nude, and although the Dune & KG shoes recommended look lovely £65 seems a lot for synthetic, no?

Finally if you spot some sandals with a strap that sits low, ideally crossing the foot in a V or a X, then you'll find it's incredibly flattering.

Sorry for going on - when I'm not on MN I own/run a shoe shop so can get a bit carried away by all this stuff Wink

Whatever you choose hope you have a fab time!x

More interesting suggestions, thank you!

I already own a pair of nude patent heels, so I could try those. I also have a pair of black slingbacks that were quite expensive about 10 years ago - I don't think they are very dated Confused, and although they are not chunky at all I was worried about black being a bit heavy. I'm just going to have to order the dress to see, aren't I?

Someone suggested gold - gold doesn't suit me at all, but pewter and silver so so if I was going to go metallic that'd be the way I'd go.
