Help! lack of eyebrows

Onesugar · 15/03/2015 20:15

My eyebrows are very very scarce. I really want some shape and colour to them and have used a pencil but invariably it comes off / smudges. I'm yet to see a natural looking tattoo so don't want to go down that route. What can you advise r.e getting desired shape and colour without the 'fake' look?

Do you pluck? I'd advise leaving them alone for as long as you can bear if you do, then having them shaped with threading. A powder to fill them in would probably help - I like Benefit's Browzings and Sleek does a dupe at a fraction of the price - then clear mascara to keep them in place.

I have alopecia, the best thing I have come across for staying power and colour (no red) is the Soap and Glory double ended pencil. It's called Archery, it's a felt tip at one end and pencil at the other. I will be stocking up this week, so terrified am I that it will be discontinued at any point. I like to have three or four around the house!
Staying power wise, I have been known to sleep in this and still have eyebrows the following morning. The felt tip is great for drawing on small hairs, looks natural and the pencil for shading larger areas.
Fabulous stuff!

I have recently discovered L'Oreal Brow Artist Plumper. Its a brow gel mascara with fibres. As long as you wipe of the excess from the wand it gives a great natural effect. I am using the light/medium option. Once it is on it doesn't budge either.

Thanks for advice! I'll check out some of the products you recommend.

Judy I don't pluck wish i had something to pluck

This is just me also , I plucked mine in the 70's when having them thin was the in thing
They've never grown back either that or I barely had none!

Even when I've tried different pencil/powders etc it still end up looking like a line and not blended so they look like hairs that are slightly darker if you know what I mean

I looked at the price of eyebrow transplant!!!! Drastic I know( if I were younger! I'd defo go for it) but at 57 is it worth it. It's about £3000

I like the Charlotte Tilbury brown pencil. I don't have any eyebrows. An assistant in Selfrdiges recommended the right shade for my colouring. It's a slanted push up pencil at one end and brow brush at the other. It also has a highlighter in the middle.

I've had my eyebrows tattooed on, and I think they look natural. The PMU who did them does a natural hair stroke - so lots of little lines emulating hairs rather than one big block of colour.

She then leaves it up to you to leave them looking natural or recommends having HD brows on top to make them stand out more if you wear a lot of make up.

They were £400, so much more than a lot of others, but totally worth it for not having to pencil them in every day!

I have eyelash extensions and the lady who does them is moving into eyebrow extensions - I think you need a fine brow (as opposed to nothing there) but thought I'd mention the existence of such a thing (I had never heard of it) for googling purposes? I'm guessing a fake hair is stuck on to fine one (as my eyelashes are). I don't really know.

Judydreamsofhorses · 16/03/2015 14:05

Oh, I can't believe I forgot - what about Rapidbrow? It's expensive, but it does work, although I've seen people have similar results with castor oil.

Onesugar · 16/03/2015 18:53

Judy I know the serum you're talking about! I used to get it from boots at around £48 a tube. It was too expensive for me to continue with the habit and when I stopped my eyebrows regressed. (Something they cleverly left out of their advertising). Will try with the castor oil tho!

Today went around the shops and brought the l'oreal thing rosie

I've also seen some eyebrow stencil things which i can stick on my eyebrows then colour in with a pencil / brush and remove. Will see how it goes.

I find powder works better than a pencil. I just use a brown eyeshadow.

321zerobaby · 16/03/2015 20:34

I would say Rapidlash/brow, then have them tinted (I think its the same stuff just with a different applicator. Its 17.50 on Amazon.

MoustacheofRonSwanson · 16/03/2015 20:52

Second castor oil smoothed on at night and in the morning Made massive difference to mine.

Benefit do a tinted gel with microfibres in it that really thickens the remaining hairs, its called Gimme Brow. I really needed it before the castor oil took effect.

Now, with better brows than I had before, I also have Lavera brow gel and use it to comb the hairs upwards- makes the eyebrow look wider. Lavera gel is brilliant for keeping them in place and looking glossy and groomed. It comes in clear and also tinted. I use the clear one and a tiny sweep of brown shadow in the one patchy bit

Judydreamsofhorses · 17/03/2015 15:55

This week's Grazia has Rapidbrow as a subscription gift if anyone's interested.

pinkfrocks · 17/03/2015 17:04

Rapidbrow- from Boots or Amazon. £39

Takes 6 weeks to work but by golly it does!

rosiepinkcheeks · 17/03/2015 19:13

Hi Onesugar, how did you get on with the Brow Artist plumper?

BestIsWest · 17/03/2015 20:03

I love the ELF eyebrow kit. Really good value too.

Eliza22 · 18/03/2015 09:15

I have a Vichy Eye Serum. It's called Liftactiv SERUM10 Eyes & Lashes. It's about £25. Now, it's essentially and eye area serum and it works well for this. BUT... as a lash fortifier, it works better on me than my RapidLash did. Seriously. I use it religiously now. One of the few products I've bought several times. I will not be purchasing RapidLash again whilst I can get this. You could try it on brows too.

DelphiniumBlue · 20/03/2015 22:54

I use Rimmel eyebrow pencil, and then an eyebrow powder on top ( think it's Body Shop). Stays put all day, and well into the evening.
