Other people's opinions on your clothes

If someone told you that they didn't like an item of clothing on you, would you still wear it?

Just asking as I recently bought a boyfriend tweed coat in the sale and my OH mentioned that he didn't like it on me. The thing was, I had lusted after this coat for ages and couldn't believe I got one half price in my size. It is incredibly comfy and I love it.

Would you still wear it - or return it?

I do value his opinion. I often tell him something doesn't suit him and he duly returns it. Just interested in what other people think?

It does put me off but my dh is old fashioned. I just dont wear things he doesnt like around him. My dh doent like heels as he is roughly my height snd I kind of then tower over him. I dont tend to wear high heels. At the end of the day, its a balance znd I do like to look good for my dh too.

Oh should have added, I wear heels to work and smallish heels because any higher and I cant walk!

Flambola · 13/03/2015 19:09

It would put me off, but only because my DH never normally has an opinion on what I'm wearing.

Put it away until next winter, bring it out again, and, if he's anything like my DH, he will then say "I like you in that coat !"

OP I would struggle with that. If I loved something and someone said it didn't suit me I would struggle to enjoy it as much as I did, it would seem a little of the shine had worn off. I don't like it, but it's true. I don't live me life by other people's opinions but I am affected by them.

I wear what I want. If he doesn't like it he can fuck off. I've yet to meet a man who stops wearing something they like because of a woman's comments.

I would appreciate someone telling me if something really didn't suit me. Generally though I don't give a shit what people think of my clothes. I used to work with a guy who'd say to me almost daily "Oh, I don't like your coat/skirt/jumper..." to which my usual response was "Good job you're not wearing it then."

I ignore it mostly. Sometimes I get comments about things making me look "busty"
Love, I'm a 34K, I can't not look busty if I try Grin
