So if the dress code were cocktail dress but you had to travel afterwards on your own on the tube... what would you wear? (size 12/14)

Live in jeans & the occasional casual skirt and flat shoes.
Thank you wise mumsnetters.

I'd wear a cocktail dress with a coat over it and possibly bring a change of shoes.

Yes thanks: and what would count as dressy enough for a cocktail dress but ok for the tube?...

M missoni at the outnet? With a long coat?
I never had any trouble on the tube on my way home though.......

Its lovely kath but my first reaction is that its not dressy enough for a cocktail dress code. Having said that, I don't know where you're going so you're in a better position to judge.

PaperPomPom · 15/03/2015 14:28

I wouldn't worry too much about the tube bit - just put a coat on. I've been on the tube in a full length evening gown before.

KathG · 15/03/2015 14:35

It says lounge suits / business attire / cocktail dresses .. so was hoping the reiss fell between the last two? Either that or a faithful black velvet boden dress?

Ew, terrible dress code. I went to one with this dress code recently and wore this:

www.feverdesigns.co.uk/sandy-embroidered-prom-dress-black-cream.html

With a black jacket. I decided if all the chaps were in business wear or lounge suits I wasn't going in a "proper" cocktail dress, I'd wear something to match - but it depends on your event and whether that would fit. I think the Reiss might be a bit short for "proper" cocktail but events I go to err on the side of stuffy and strict about dress lengths Hmm

Don't worry about the tube. Choose the dress that you want, shove a coat on and maybe have some flat shoes to change into. I've traveled alone on the train late at night before in a ball gown and a wig! :)

That black dress with lace is lovely.
