hideous thighs

thunderthighz · 12/03/2015 15:56

Currently my thighs look like two pasty white sausage skins stuffed with lumpy porridge.

I go on a beach holiday in a couple of months and am currently exercising and attempting healthy eating in an effort to slim them down and improve their appearance.

But what else could I do? Dry body brushing? Apply a cellulite cream?

Can anyone recommend anything that they know works well on thighs?

TIA

I body brush
Moisturise
Apply fake tan

My friend likes weights and her legs have completely changed and now look incredible
I cba but that looks like a winner
I think cellulite cream is made up

Definitely try body brushing. I'm very cynical about all these wonder creams which moisturise at best. I just can't see from a scientific point of view how they can penetrate the epidermis. However, body brushing does smooth off dead skin cells and bring the blood to the surface which gives a better overall colour to the legs. Oils and moisturisers help them look less scaly and therefore aesthetically more pleasing.

I bought the MIO body brush on sale at SpaceNK recently and it is fabulous, but there are plenty of similar ones in Boots. I prefer the ones that look like horse brushes that fit into the hand as I find they give me more control over the pressure. The idea is to use firm but gentle upward strokes. You're not attempting to make them bleed!! Grin Brushing alone has really transformed the texture of the skin on my arms and legs.

As usual, there are no short cuts. Drink plenty of water, cut out processed crap, and walk a lot for tone. Squats and donkey kicks also improve overall shape in a relatively short time.

A self tanner can also boost confidence and make the legs appear slightly slimmer but make sure that you take your time applying it, exfoliate well beforehand and build up the colour gradually being especially careful over naturally dryer areas like the backs of ankles and knees.

drier even....Smile

Sorry, I've no immediate solution but I do have a long term one. ...... pilates. The description of your thighs sounds just like mine were last year. I was horrified at holiday pictures of me. I started pilates and six months in, I've toned up tremendously. My clothes are falling off me. That's without dieting or watching what I eat. And people are starting to comment on my new changed figure. Grin Try it!

I have hideous thighs. So I keep them covered until I'm on a sun lounger or in the water. Lying down the fat sits better if I arramge myself artfully! Fake tan makes my orange skin look more orange. So I go without or use a sun bed (I know I know, but it's 6 sessions 2x a decade).

If you really are determined to do something I'd do the body brushing and squats. Look on line for technique and use weights: bottles of water or house bricks are fine.

you have legs that work. That's not 'hideous'. Brushing and creams do nothing. You could try losing weight if you need to. Some of us are just made with bigger thighs.

no-one will notice or care.

bonzo77 · 12/03/2015 19:48

so special if they didn't work I'd be allowed to call them hideous would I? I'm sure that would go down well with those unfortunate enough to have legs that don't work. This is S&B, by its nature some of the concerns expressed will be a bit "shallow" compared to worthier topics.

specialsubject · 12/03/2015 20:17

oh FFS. It is extremely childish to call any part of the body hideous.

it is also daft to think brushing and creams will work. Even on this forum.

Bye.

I think you don't have enough time to magically morph into Rosie Huntington-Whitely, so your best bet is to buy a fabulous bikini and wear the top with light coloured cotton tube skirts or pale denim boyfriend shorts and lovely sparkly sandals. And lots of gradual tan and lovely body lotion to use while you're there. You don't have to expose bits you're not happy with Smile except at the pool, but then you should be splashing about having fun (with your thighs underwater) anyway and you can cover up again after.

White distressed boyfriend shorts - just add a tan and a fab bikini.

or Hush denim ones

Or board shorts are great as you can wear them in the sea and they dry quickly. These or these would look great with a navy bikini, or I love these Seafolly ones and want them maybe in the indigo for my beach hol in late summer when I'll be postnatal.

Exercise! Swimming shorts & sarong

I had that problem too, and also varicose veins too so my legs werent pretty. Been doing some weights at the gym and squats and the cellulite is disappearing from the front of my legs for the first time in over a decade! Not even that much effort either, the cardio I done didn't help much.

I need to douse myself in fake tan to cover the veins unfortunately... Have a holiday in two weeks. Got a nice bikini to sunbathe in and a thin sarong to cover the lumpy bits at the top of my legs, swimming shorts are always a winner too I find :)

Squats
Squats
Squats
Squats
Do 100 squats per day. Look up on YouTube how to do them properly.
Eat a high-protein, low-GI diet.
Drink fuckloads of water.
Forget sugar, forget alcohol, forget caffeine.
Get a spray tan before you go

2nd vote for Pilates. Mine have changed out of all recognition and, as a bonus, it's fantastically relaxing.

Judydreamsofhorses · 12/03/2015 23:06

I know it's v retro, but I've been doing Callanetics for the last year or so, and gosh, it's completely changed the shape of my bottom and thighs beyond recognition. I have the Quick Callanetics DVD (I got mine on Amazon) and do the bum/thigh routine four days a week - it's just 20 minutes so easy to fit in, and in terms of "equipment" all you need is something to hold on to, I use the windowsill.

Thank you so much for this thread!

I too have thunderous thighs and cankles - I hadn't realised how bad they were until I caught sight of them in the daylight (we usually have candles for sexy time so luckily DP still thinks I'm attractive!)

I used to do Callanetics as a teenager and I remember it being quite hard work, but it really made a difference. Just ordered it from Amazon. Flowers

Thanks for all the advice - body brushing it is then and many, many squats!
