Chanel lipsticks - what am I doing wrong?

I have two Chanel lippies - a red and a plummy shade, one a Rouge Coco and one a Rouge Allure.

Admittedly I've had them both a good while.....I'm trying to make the effort to look a bit more groomed for work these days and have dragged them out of the 'night out only' pile.

Whenever I wear them I get a sort of claggy line of colour where my lips meet and at the corners of my mouth.

I haven't had this issue with any other lipsticks, my lips aren't dry....has anyone else had this?

I'm about to bin them in frustration!

I'm a big fan of Chanel lipsticks, have about a dozen, and usually they don't do this.
The sole exception: Rouge Coco Shine in Aventure.
I get a claggy line with that.

It could be a mixture of saliva (yum) and lip balm residue if you use that.
Have you tried skipping lip balm, exfoliating your lips (gentle rubbing with a mixture of sugar and honey), and blotting them with a tissue before and after you apply lipstick? Or applying the lippy with a small brush or as a stain with your finger?

I haven't been using the lip balm before the lippy but I think you are right about the saliva (yuck). It seems to be made worse by talking a lot in client meetings! I'll give the stain/finger tip a try....oddly enough I have never noticed it when I've applied it carefully with a brush (for a stronger look) in an evening....though cocktails and merry reapplication do not make this a controlled experiment!

Could it be anything to do with them being fairly ancient?
