Suddenly apple shaped. Help me find a dress!

DC3 is 10 months. Sadly, despite eating very carefully I put on a lot of weight in pregnancy and this time I am finding it massively hard to shift. It has also settled around my tummy, which I'm finding really difficult as previously I've always been more pear shaped and tend to dress accordingly. Very few of my nice clothes fit.

I have a fairly smart daytime party in a couple of weeks and want to look good. I'm tall and a size 14 (borderline 16 in some styles due to aforementioned sudden apple shape). Decent shoulders and arms (due to hefting around non-walking 10 month old). Don't really do heels.

Please, please help me find something to wear. I am sick of looking frumpy and awful and I have no idea how to dress an apple shape without looking like I'm 5 months gone with no. 4.

I'm a size 16 apple and find shift shaped dresses in a nice print the most forgiving for semi smart. Warehouse are good for this, sort of this shape (they have loads) teamed with pretty flats would make a lovely outfit

That is lovely, and would totally never have occurred to me to pick off the rails. Thank you! This is why I need help.

I've had years of practice!

FWIW if you dont fancy a dress I've learned we need to stick to a skinny silhouette on the bottom half , so skinny ankle grazer trews or jeans teamed with a top that doesn't cling but isn't oversized. I've just bought this and it's pretty much the shape and type of top that suits me best

Thank you again. Quite fancy a dress as I've been trapped in separates whilst bfing. But thank you for the top tip if I decide to go with trousers Smile

Agree with everything gillybob says...except I'd go for tapered/slim ankle grazers rather than skinny.

And definitely a shift dress every time.
