Wedding dress which isn't a wedding dress?!

HoggleHoggle · 11/03/2015 15:48

Hoping you can help...my sister is getting married this year and doesn't want a traditional wedding dress. She's not having any luck finding a dress she does want though, so I wondered if anyone had tips of shops/designers she should keep in mind?

She's thinking probably more the evening dress route, white/ivory/nude/blush pink type colours. Budget is fairly healthy (not ridiculous obviously!) so doesn't necessarily have to be super cheap. She's tried places like the formal dress section in Selfridges with no luck.

Suggestions gratefully received, thank you!

Tadashi, a Japanese designer, has some amazing evening frocks that could easily double as wedding gowns. I have several of his creations, and they are beautiful -- well made and lovely fit.

Prices are in dollars, but there are several UK stockiest as well as the online shop which posts to the UK.

Has she tried Phase 8?

I'd have a look online at net a porter and matches.com, lots of gorgeous dresses there. Worth looking on the outnet too

HoggleHoggle - I know, they are bloody gorgeous. I have a love/hate relationship with his creations: I love how they look and fit, but I hate the fact that I crave them so badly. Must build up resistance...

Phase Eight have some nice ones in their 'Collection 8'.

Also look at Adrianna Papell (House of Fraser and JL stock them)

I found a lot of non traditional dresses in standard bridal shops when I was shopping this season, blush and coffee shades were everywhere. I tried on a gorgeous coffee colour Maggie Sottero which I would have bought except that it felt like an evening dress, not bridey enough! X

Thank you so much all! I am sending all these suggestions her way (with the appropriate credit to the wise minds of MN of course)

I had a Ghost dress.

Has she thought about having one made ? My friend couldn't find one she really loved but knew what she would like to find and so found someone to make it for her. The cost wasn't as much as she had expected and cheaper than some of the dresses she tried on in stores. Her dress looked amazing, fitted beautifully and was a one off.
