Passport photos - anyone else admitting to extreme measures?

Very stupidly have managed to align passport renewal date with the run-up to a major birthday. Was feeling OK about the birthday until I breezed into a Photo Me booth at the weekend. It spat out a set of images that made me look like Madge Allsop, Dame Edna's former bridesmaid.

Bit of a shocker and not really something to put anyone in a holiday mood. So today, in search of better set, I have visited a high street photographers twice, they were closed both times, and three supermarkets, one with an out of order booth, and one with a booth which I thought had produced a marginally better result until I got home and noticed hair in my eyes. In a final bid for a more flattering result I returned to the original supermarket with a cardboard box covered in tin foil which I held under my face. It works! The results are much improved (but wish I hadn't done this where we do the weekly shop as the security and welcome desk staff clearly think I'm nuts).

Hoping it's not just me...?

none actually looks at your passport, ever
Oh yes they do...as evidenced by passport control a couple of years ago,
Me: shall I take my glasses off?
PC (smirking): Oh, I can tell it's you.

Five years ago we had DS's rejected for 'open mouth' (poor kid had the world's chunkiest brace on his Bugs Bunny teeth and couldn't help it) and DD's rejected for 'invisible eyebrows'. Which they are, DD being the White Rabbit to DS's Bugs Bunny effect.

Time to renew them this year. Oh god.

Where was this thread 6 months ago?? Angry

I had mine done by an actual person in the post office, and it got rejected for some spurious reason. Phew, so back I went, only for the resulting replacements to be even worse.

I showed them to DH under duress. He said I looked like Charlize Theron ...!

... in Monster... Shock Sad Angry

I did.

I went for a lovely blow dry before my last passport photo. I also rather overdid the make-up & my face looked really orange in the photos, with white neck. I calmed the make-up down & went back next day & did the photos again (not the blow dry which still looked fine!). I actually quite like my passport photo.

Yes to the silver foil thingy. DH has a half decent camera and a silver disc. Did ours against a neutral background in a well lit room with reflector under chin. Uploaded to a photo printing site who did them the right size.
