Long and dark, to short and blonde

Am bored of my hair. And get frequently annoyed by it.

Currently below shoulder length, dark brown, with a fringe. If i can be bothered to wash daily, blow dry, straighten and keep a check on it all day then it looks good.

However - i do a lot of exercise, so I often end up just washing and tying it up in a ponytail.

The length means that if I am trying to get dressed or undressed in hurry, it gets caught in my sports bra. If it is windy outside then I look like Wurzel Gummidge.

Also am noticing a few 'silver' hairs sprouting. (I am late 40s, so done pretty well really).

So fancy a total change.

To go from .. um a Davina hair on my best styling day

to short, blonde and totally different.

Something like Charlize Theron. Unfortunately I am not quite as pretty as her. Grin

anyone else done anything so drastic?

I know, it's only hair -and will grow again - but I suppose you get used to having long hair. It was quite a big deal getting a fringe cut in!

I've put a pic on my profile if anyone wants to have a look. Used to have long mousey brown hair about 20yrs ago. Got the chop and have gradually gone lighter, wouldn't go back to long hair now although I have been toying with the idea of trying to go red/copper. If you're unsure I'd say hold off for now, it's a hell of a shock at first even thought I really liked it straight away. I often get complimented on my barnet though feel I need make up so I don't feel too masculine.

Thanks Eliza Grin it really is, isn't it? liberating i mean, though i agree it looks ace too honestly this hairdresser is amazing. my neck's a bit chilly though, have to dig out a scarf Grin ilook i can't see your profile but i don't know if that's because i'm on the ipad which i can't work properly. see i agree that it's really quite shocking the first time you do it but that's why i think the best thing to do is just get it all off and not think too much about it - you could be undecided forever fretting about what a drastic thing it is to do. once it's done you love it and away you go. and it is just hair, it does grow.

Am resurrecting this thread as I have my appointment this week.

Still having a bit of a wobble about it, particularly as I had a salon blowdry at the weekend for a party, and it looked lovely.

But - today it is in a ponytail, windswept and untidy.

Will update my pics after the event. Grin

If it's any consolation, mine's all over the place in this weather, too! It makes me want my short hair back. I "did" my hair this morning, God knows why because 5 mins after leaving the house, it looked a mess.

Go for it!

I am really, really enjoying my pixie. It has been about 3/4 weeks now - and some curl has grown in so have a few more styles to experiment with.

I am having to make sure I do not veer towards the "frump" as it is curly - but just adding some product, tweaking it a bit and voila it has gone from frumpy to funky. Wish I could say there was a method to the tweak - am never quite sure what it is that makes the difference - the direction of the sides? a curl going the correct way? But meh...takes seconds.

Have not had a bad hair day since the chop. No actually, that is not fair - I did the first day/two days until I learnt how to style it.

And you notice the growth far more - so it changes. Which so far has been a good thing - not getting bored like I used to with my variations-on-a-bob.

Attached a couple of pics - one from today, one from last week.

Right. It's done.

Definitely short. Not very blonde - but certainly lighter and a little more interesting.

Pics of before and after should be on my profile.

p.s. I am the most un photogenic person ever. What i see in the mirror, doesn't seem to translate to the camera. ha

I wanted to keep my pics 'temporary'.(as in i can delete later)

Any ideas ?

Wow - looks amazing - you can really see your eyes, elegant neck and cheekbones. You look fab!

You are going to have soooo much fun....

Though be warned - you will find yourself tweaking stuff like your makeup - I finally succumbed to eyebrow pencil/shade stuff as without my old hair flipflapping over them I needed to define them more. I had always thought the "define your brows" think was rubbish...til I exposed mine to view Grin

Thanks chop -

Yes, I already realised that my eyebrows need dealing with. They are quite fair compared to my hair.

nochocolateformepleaseiwantgin · 02/04/2015 17:29

yes mindalina I figured might as well just go for it.

Will have a shock in themorning when I wake up I am sure. And when I go in the shower to wash it!

Report
mindalina · 02/04/2015 17:34

haha yes I bet you will! washing it is bliss, it's literally the work of seconds

DH was certainly surprised when he got in last night. I think he likes it now.

I will try and get a better pic - that one does me no favours at all!

Going for a shower now - shouldn't take long to washhair today - and I guess I won't need a separate hair towel.

I'm looking forward to seeing your next picture if you think that one's not flattering! Did you not tell him you were going for a chop? My son told me I had 'boy hair' and it was 'weird' - mine's not even that short at the front!

Thats lovely, a really good cut.

I've had short crop for a year now (bored with my one length brown bob) and re-discovered my hair has waves Grin

I've gone a bit lighter/redder (the last dye Light Golden Brown did turn out darker than I thought it would so no real colour change but I can cope)

It is much easier to manage, just a quick wash and rub or spray a wax/mousse/serum depending on what I want.
Cut every 6 weeks means I don't get colour build up.

Your hair looks grat gin really suits you. ( I agree re the eyebrows, mine need to be enhanced but they do frame the eyes nicely)

Make sure you book your trim in time , mine goes from "Hmm okay" to "Blinking Flip I look like Arthur Scargill on a bad day" in about 48 hours Blush
