I'm 5'6 and since late thirties have become an obvious apple shape. I have slim (relatively) legs and look like a Russian shot putter on top. Approx 16/18 below but 18/20/22 on top.

I want to make some skirts for summer but I'm unsure what style. I love the full circle skirts around and the fit and flare dresses. What type of skirts and tops flatter an apple shape in your experience pls.
Xx TIA

You've just described me to a t. I find that skater dresses flatter me as they flare out from under my boobs, other than that I'm stumped.

Empire or A line is the only cut that seems to flatter the apple shape.

I would imagine that the circular skirt would not be a good idea, sorry (fellow apple here).

Thanks ladies that's what I thought. I made an a line skirt at Christmas but it was like something my mother would wear! I think it was too long. Back to the pattern drawing board.

Empire lines work well for apples. Phase 8 do them, Pepperberry, Monsoon, White Stuff etc

Thank you twinkle

Hello, fellow apple here. I found that knee length straight skirts or skirts cut on the bias with tops at belly button length are the most flattering. Sleeveless shift dresses with long cardigans in a contrasting colour on top.

Rhymerocket · 08/03/2015 21:51

Oh Maraki! I love the idea of sleeveless shift with contrast cardy. Might try that next.

I'm an Apple.
Shift jumper dresses brilliant all winter.
Already got two maxi shifts for summer.
Shifts all the way.

Apple here. Step away from empire lines, they are for maternity wear only IMO. Boxy tops, slimmer bottoms work well for me. Add shape with a blazer which creates the illusion of a waist.
