London Worker Style

Right, I've been invited to a conference in London and I usually dress smart but comfortably/slightly offbeat for work.

It's very important that I am taken seriously though so I am reassessing what I might wear.

Any suggestions? What do the masses wear to work in London? I am keen to not look like an 'outsider'.

What sector are you in? Is it one which dresses smart generally?
I work in fundraising and at London conventions it is just amazing the variation in dress - smart businesses at to leggings, trainers, jumpers!

My London peers seem to do.business dress but slightly edgier, e.g. the odd see through blouse.

Interested to see what others think as am also trying to look more credible for work!

Very industry dependent. If you are legal/consultancy/financial services I'd suggest a business dress - slightly more interesting than a suit but is clearly formal. Goat, Reiss, Libby London, Jaeger all have good examples. If you're in a more creative industry I'm no help. Sorry!

If creative then go for simple and pared back. Don't do statement necklace

Nancy66 · 06/03/2015 12:22

I agree. totally dependent on the industry. World of difference between, say, finance and media

It's a finance industry meeting. Quite staid.

That said I am quite 'kooky looking'. I have a face that no suit can make look professional Wink

I think I will be erring on the side of caution with black and grey dresses.

Footwear wise I am thinking brogues?

I know what you mean,I am the same with suits - I would go for a smart dress and nice but comfortable shoes.
