I'm getting hair extensions tomorrow

And I am a bit nervous.

I have had short hair for ages but it is currently in the in-between stage and unmanageable so I thought I would get hair extensions after years of considering it off and on. I know I could wait for my own hair to grow but I want to try them, at least until my hair grows a bit more.

My hair dresser is doing them and I trust that she will do an amazing job. She is very experienced and I have seen her work.

I am nervous about doing the school run and turning up with long hair all of a sudden. I am quite self-conscious so while I am very excited I also feel a bit nervous about a drastic change in hair style, not so much what it will look like, but people's reactions at me turning up with long hair after it being short- ish the day before.

So I wondered if anyone has had them, how they got on with them and did they feel silly at first if you went from short/medium hair to long?

I am not going that long, just above my shoulders.

Hi,

I've had them in the past, and absolutely loved them! How are they attaching them if you don't mind me asking?

I am getting more next month, as my hair is at the horrible not long, but not short stage after trying to grow it out from a pixie cut I had (was not a good look for me!).

I didn't feel self-concious when I had mine done, in fact I couldn't wait to show off my new hair as I instantly felt so much better about how my hair looked.

good luck, I'm sure you'll love them.

I get them done all the time, varying between my own long bob to past boob length to in between.

I love them, I've had weaves and micro bonds before and I liked both, though the micro beads were easier for putting my hair up.

Don't worry about the school run, they'll just think 'She's got extensions in'

It might not be so dramatic. First time I got mine done, I only had about 3 inches extra hair and my SIL looked at me for a really long time and asked if I'd gotten it cut Grin

Thank you, that makes me feel much better.

I am not actually sure how she is attaching them. I just told her to do it the best way for my hair. I have known her for ages so just trusted her to do it right.

I know she isn't using micro loops. I liked the idea of them but my hair is too short for them on one side. I am having layers put in so it blends properly and some highlights put in, well some light strands of hair I should say.

I will let you know how it goes. I love my hair short but it is hard to maintain and as it gets longer I have bits sticking up which is hard to style. I am sick of being in this in-between stage.

I hope I walk out feeling so good that I want the world to see them.

She'll probably do you a weave with a top closure. We have a really great extension tech at the salon I work in, if you're in West Yorkshire I can happily refer you Grin

I hope you love them!

The was a long day!

Ok, they are done and I'm still in a state of shock. I think I am going to love them but it is such a drastic change. I have gone from hair just below the hair to hair just below shoulder length. I love the colours and I definitely feel more feminine and polished.

The only problem is the back bonds are showing a bit. They aren't too bad as they blend in with my hair colour but I can still notice them. She said that once I have slept on them and washed them they will blend in and become unnoticeable.

I still feel silly about the thought of doing the school run but that may be because I am still not used to them.

Would love to see a picture of them! Could you post???? It would have been really nice to have seen a before and after!

Sallystyle · 09/03/2015 14:26

No pictures and they have been taken out. Well, I have pictures of the disaster.

Lets just say the person I trusted so much left me looking like Rod Stewart.

I originally thought they were ok and would settle, two days later it was quite obvious that the person I trusted most with my hair should not have put them in at all and I looked pissing awful.

I have no hair extensions and wasted a lot of money. People keep telling me to complain but I find it hard to do as we were really friendly and I think a lot of her (well I did). But she obviously didn't give a shit about what I looked like.

Oh no U2 Shock were they really that bad? What did other people think?
I'm considering extensions so this is really interesting for me. Sorry you had such a bad time though

KittensOnAPlane · 09/03/2015 15:30

oh no - thats awful - can you get a refund if they were that bad? (trading standards....?)

Milllli · 09/03/2015 15:44

You said you liked them though? What changed? I don't think that she didn't give a shit about your hairstyle though. You had such faith in her earlier if you read your old posts so maybe she just isn't as good at extensions as she is at other haircare.

Sallystyle · 09/03/2015 15:57

I loved the front to start with and didn't pay much attention to the back because I can't see it. I knew the back wasn't sitting well but thought they would settle.

When I got dh to take a photo the next day I could see that they were looking worse and I had a mullet. The front and sides were nice though.

I have seen her previous extension work and they were great.

The problem was my hair is just too short. I had too many very short layers and no blending in was going to make them look anything other than mullet like. If my hair was one length and longer I am sure they would have been great but I trusted her when she said it was long enough.

As for other people, some people tired telling me they were lovely, my husband was honest with me and when I showed my sister she told me I needed them out ASAP. When I got them removed the people who originally said they were lovely admitted that they weren't.

She is fantastic at cutting my hair but I can't work out why she said my hair was ok to have them in.

I could complain, I have the pictures but because I like her I don't want to upset her :hmm

Sorry but some people just want the money and regardless of whether you are friends or not they will do this.
I had a similar experience to you, I paid a lot of money and ended up looking like a total idiot and £250 worse off.
I have now bought clip in hair extensions which were cheap and I can arrange them how I want and wear them when I want. When you are ready you can try them and there are some great videos on YouTube which show you how to put them in.
