Beauty counter makeup/makeover recommendations

I'm getting married later this year and have decided to do my own makeup (not sure I can stand one more person fussing round me on the day!).

Would like a makeup/makeover session at a counter ahead of time to pickup some tips and maybe some new products but don't know where to start! I've heard mac are good but not sure how to arrange one (and have also heard they can be a bit bitchy?!) - anybody have any recommendations?

Bobby Brown are good but it might be worth investing in makeup lessons so you learn the techniques as well as the colours which suit you.

My sister is an independent make up artist, and she does lessons. Would there be someone like this in your area? It might cost something, but would be more personal.
