Are these a gimmick or should I get one?
I have shoulder length hair if that makes a difference.

Hey BayBliss and other manufacturers, how about sending a few brushes to the Mumsnet posters for giving you so much publicity.......
We've all done a good sales job for you I'm sure lol

Always, willing to test and critique Wink

I have naturally curly hair that I could never blow dry or style straight or smooth. When I use the big hair people complement my hair and ask if I've been to the hairdressers. It takes a few goes to get the hang of it and I benefited from watching two or three you tube videos on the technique (including quickly section ing the hair) and even I soon got the hang of it (even on the difficult to reach back of my head). I love mine so yes. The only drawback I find with it is it gets claggy after awhile from the build up of products. I want to give it a good clean but unsure how to so I haven't bothered.

Miltonmaid · 05/03/2015 11:37

I Love the result but you do have to watch out for it drying your hair out and giving split ends. I'm also onto my third one, both previous ones stopped turning after 18 months of use.

HopecoveGirl · 06/03/2015 18:40

Thank you for this thread! (Although it's cost me. Go to stop lurking on the Mumsnet forums). I have such thick hair, that my hairdresser says she has only ever come across one other person with the same amount, in 40 years of hairdressing. Everybody says I'm lucky but I hate hair washing days. I am now at the stage where it takes nearly all day to get it sorted.

So long story short (or maybe not) I've ordered one. Thank you for the the advice and tips. I am really hoping that this does the trick!!

Skivvywoman · 06/03/2015 21:09

Hope honestly you will love it Smile

MilkshakeMonkey · 07/03/2015 10:15

I do love mine!

for those who report burn out, did you know they have a 3 year warranty? Mine stopped blowing. I didn't have a recipe or anything and phoned customer service. Really helpful, sent it off, a week later got sent a BRAND NEW one! Gold star!

monkey36 · 08/03/2015 08:51

thinking of getting one but my hair is thick curly shoulder length mixed race hair, which i get blowed dried straight at the salon weekly at 40 pounds a go. yes, v, dear. unless i go for the big on trend curly , frizz bob, i need something that can sort out frizz. i tend to wear it up or tied back for a professional sleek look. any advice please.

monkey36 · 08/03/2015 08:54

@hopecovegirl. you sound as if you have similar hair issues. how have you got on. going to order one too, i think.

RubyReins · 08/03/2015 14:37

I just bought one yesterday on the basis of the comments here (baaaa!) and because I got some very good news and wanted to treat myself :) Just had a go with it now and it's incredible. I always avoided it because I thought it would make my already very big hair bigger and that it was a means to make fine hair appear thicker, I didn't realise it was essentially a means to achieve a salon-esque blow dry. I am all sleek and swishy! Delighted with it.

Mclary · 08/03/2015 17:04

No no no
Not happy at all
Maybe I was expecting miracles, but it certainly doesn't give me big hair.
I want to cry

MilkshakeMonkey · 09/03/2015 10:05

Don't cry Mclary
Play around with it a bit, watch some YouTube videos and bond with it.

Skivvywoman · 09/03/2015 10:12

I didn't want big hair with it a wanted smooth sleek hair and that's exactly what it gives me,

When I normally dry and straighten my hair I can never get salon results and normally end up tying my hair up but since Thursday I've wore my hair down every day

I'll never be without one now so thank you to those who raved about it Smile

Fabulassie · 09/03/2015 12:31

I am very clumsy with the dryer and brush, and I have to say that with the BBH I don't achieve what my hair stylist can do. She can get silky straight perfection. I can get reasonable if somewhat fluffy nice hair.

Skivvywoman · 09/03/2015 13:36

Fabulassie how are you using it?

Fabulassie · 09/03/2015 15:43

I dunno - like the video shows you? I am not good at hair, though. I have a lot of it and I get confused trying to work behind my head while looking in a mirror. I don't really bother to section my hair or anything. And I don't have the patience to go as long as my stylist does.

I do give a rough blow dry before I use it.

SensAbility · 09/03/2015 16:21

Fabulassie, sometimes it's easier if you don't look in the mirror because it can confuse you, which way to hole the brush and which way to turn it. Get the big clips from the pound shop and try and separate the front hair from back. Then get hold of the the back of the hair but only get hold of hair to fit the width of the brush. It's usually when too much hair is put on the brush, that the tangles happen.
although hairdressers usually dry it in smaller sections let's face it not many of us have the time to do it that way, so the next best thing is to try and do the back of the head first, then the sides, then the top, then the front.
Good luck....

Hope we all get one for Mother's day off Baybliss.. hint ...hint..

rootsradicals · 09/03/2015 20:33

Mine's arrived and I blinking well love it!

My hair's very thick, I used to do the curly girl thing when it was longer but it would take the entire day to dry so I chopped it all off. I've been drying and straightening it just to get a bit of shine but today I rough dried it, sectioned it (pretty badly as I'm rubbish at the hair stuff) then used the BH on it. It turned out a bit mushroomy too bouncy as my hair's a bit too short for it really, but then I put the machine of wonder on top my hair by the root and made it spin downwards which has calmed it all down a bit.
Overall I'm really pleased, the frizz is all gone and my hair looks sleek and shiny, I can't wait for it to grow now so I can use it properly!

Skivvywoman · 09/03/2015 21:08

Roots that's how I use mine,
Rough dry it then section it with a claw clip and spray a straightening lotion on my hair then I spin it on top of the hair rather than go under then while its sectioned run the straighteners through it, then the same with the Middle section and then the top and results are fabby smooth and sleek and much better than I've ever been able to do and quicker than drying and straightening it

rootsradicals · 09/03/2015 21:21

Isn't it fantastic skivvy ?! My hair has always been a complete and utter pain so I'm ecstatic to have found something to sort the bastardly mess out.

Reading the thread it does seem to work best on thick, unruly hair. It does make me wonder whether 'big hair' is a very apt name for it..!

Skivvywoman · 09/03/2015 21:57

It sure is Smile I've got fine hair but loads and loads of it! And a sheer bastard to straighten this is defo worth the money!

MissWimpyDimple · 09/03/2015 21:59

I have a chin length Bob and I use it to make sure all the ends are curling under and it all has a bit of body.
Leaves me a bit mushroomy too and looking rather mumsy so I do it all, then run the straighteners over it at the end.
I don't think it gives me "big hair" but as someone who has never been able to get to grips with the technique of the barrel brush and dryer thing I'm happy.

cerealqueen · 09/03/2015 22:33

I was tempted to buy the babylis big hair but I use this

straightening brush you use with your normal hairdryer

and I get salon hair every day, straightens, doesn't ruin my hair, and as I dry my hair (chin length bob) upside down, I get volume and swingy hair!

SirChenjin · 10/03/2015 07:40

I bought one of those some time ago - unfortunately the results were dreadful. Definitely didn't like my thick, wavy, frizzy hair - and didn't give me the shine/swish that the BBH does. Maybe depends on your hair type?

Skivvywoman · 10/03/2015 07:50

I bought one of those brushes to but it didn't work on my hair Hmm

SaltySeaBird · 10/03/2015 07:58

Anyone use it with long hair? I have hair which is just below my shoulder blades. It's average thickness but does require some effort and time with a hair dryer to give it any volume and finish.

Most people who love this seem to have shoulder length hair - any lovers with long hair?
