we were talking about her having a few subtle home done highlights in etc for a sunkissed look (she is 13 ) but has jumped the gun and belached it on the sneak with Jeroke max lift bleach etc. It is HORRIBLE and she looks like the Mila Johovthing in Fifth Element !!! Nasty brassy orangey yellow

I could cry

Cannot afford the hairdresser; what can we do to tone it down???

would that lilac/purple shampoo be any help? It's supposes to take down the yellow I believe.

Poundland and the like have lots of hairdye packs if you need to redye and cover at minimal cost

dementedpixie · 01/03/2015 13:55

Try an ash blonde on top to tone it down or

dementedpixie · 01/03/2015 13:55

or a light brown if you want it a bit darker

tabulahrasa · 01/03/2015 13:57

Either go for blonde and an ash blonde to get rid of the orangeness or stick a brown dye on it, but not an ash one to avoid the khaki look that sometimes happens with brown on bleached hair.

Gatekeeper · 01/03/2015 13:58

can I use a demi permanent on top???one of those casting gloss type things in an ash blonde?

When I bleached my hair neon orange by mistake and couldn't afford the hairdressers I got myself two boxes of dark ish hair dye and did one at a time... The first one went green ish but the second one covered it. My head was quite sore afterwards though and I'm not sure that's the safest thing to do!

When I did the same the same thing again years later (I didn't learn) I spent £150 at the hairdressers having it bleached properly the way I actually wanted it into a near platinum blonde. It lasted about 6 weeks before my root regrowth looked awful and rather than have them touched up I dyed it all dark again! What a waste of time (5 hours) and money!

winsomewitch · 01/03/2015 14:02

Make sure you use a brown dye with a red tint colour in it or she might end up with some fabulous green streaks!

Gatekeeper · 01/03/2015 14:12

shite

her hair is naturally light brown/dark blonde

every time I look it appears worse

I'm a hairdresser. Don't try cover it with ash, it'll go khaki. Get a warm, mid brown. Nothing else is going to cover it properly unless she wants red/auburny hair and you'll get stuck in a cycle of ginger/pissy yellow if you try use blonde dyes!

It's a learning experience, I had orange hair with platinum roots when I was 15, very sexyGrin

dementedpixie · 01/03/2015 14:24

I had 'strawberry blonde' hair when I was a teenager (aka orange!). I am naturally dark brown but decided to bleach it and put a toner through it.

When I was fed up of it I then covered it over with a dark dye and it went jet black which was not a good look as I was very pale as it was.

dementedpixie · 01/03/2015 14:25

I used to get hair dye in a tub from the gothic shop and put them through it too - think I stained my mum's bathroom window sill with the purple stuff..oops

MyGastIsFlabbered · 01/03/2015 14:28

Demented-sounds like Directions hair dye.

Gatekeeper · 01/03/2015 14:28

she has very pink cheeks and the clash with them is errrr clashing

will only mid brown tone it down StayGoldponyBoy as that will to too dark for her very white with pink cheeks colouring. Will one of these not tone it down?

thank you for everyones advice; I am getting stuck into a bottle of beer to calm me down. School is strict regarding hair colour so am worried about tomorrow

This happened to me around the age of 15. Brown dye went khaki so I was told by a hair dresser to use a brown with reddish tones and it worked!

You could try a plea for a mobile hairdresser on Facebook - MUCH cheaper than a salon. I pay £35 for full head of foils, cut and blow dry. A professional is probably better than many different types of brown dye.

Isthatwhatdemonsdo · 01/03/2015 14:34

Scott Cornwall Iced Platinum toner from Boots should shift the yellow out.

MrsRonBurgundy · 01/03/2015 14:39

Try the Bleach London brand hair toner. It should take the orange out x

StayGoldPonyBoy · 01/03/2015 14:46

If you have a Sallys Beauty Supply store near you, you can buy salon products without a trade card. Buy maybe a 7-8.2 tube of colour and a 3% developer. Mix according to the instructions. You can see the colour developing on wet hair and just take it off when it looks ready. I'm in leeds and we have one here. The trouble with box dyes is you don't know what the actual shade is or what developer it's mixed with. You can try, but you'll likely spend a fortune and saturate her hair with colour.

Gatekeeper · 01/03/2015 15:05
Sad

here natural hair was so beautiful...all different shades of honey, caramel etc

she's crying now as she hates it

arghhh 2nd bottl eof beer req. reckon I will have to take my self off out tomorrow - luckily there is a Sally's in the nearbye town. Have never been in but will now. Good job her hair is short- at least the craps bits can be got rid of sooner than if it had been waist length as it was until recently

thank you everyone

Chillyegg · 01/03/2015 15:13

Do not put more bleach on it!!!

Make sure you use a mid brown warm hair dye.

And intensively condition her hair.

My stupid mate at Uni bleached her hair with some dodgy stuff and it turned into silly string and fell out

zippyandbungle · 01/03/2015 15:57

Sad my dd did similar last year. I Really feel for you both. Could you ring up a mobile hairdresser and ask for a price, they might not be too expensive. We tried to sort it at home and ended up at a salon as we just couldn't. It was near her birthday do we told her it would be part of her present as we were skint at the time. I hope you manage to sort something poor little mite.
