Trying to work out sizing....and failing

I would like to buy a pair of shoes but I don't know what size to buy them in. It's not because I don't know how big my feet are, it's because I can't work out what size I should order them in.

I'm looking for a European size 40 - is that a 6, 6.5, 7 or 7.5 in shoes???

I should add that two of the three images above are from the same high street retailer so it seems that they don't know themselves

i think it might depend on the actual shoe and where it was manufactured as even in european sizing, places like italy have a slightly different size. it seems that it's either a 6.5 or 7 according to those charts. it may be that you have to order both and try on though. shoes online are a minefield tbh
