Has anyone tried scar reducing serum?

I have acne scarring on my face from when I was a teen/early twenties so it's been there a long time. I've seen this scar reducing serum in Boots. Two types, one small bottle for £10 and the other even smaller for £20. Don't mind paying if they work, but has anyone had any success with this stuff?

I have an abdominal scar after surgery.

Tried bio oil and also a gel sheet designed for scar reduction.

Both were useless tbh.

Spoke to a dermatologist and was advised that any significant improvement would be down to laser treatment.

Any topical treatments over the counter simply were not going to cut it.

Different situation for you but my instinct says save your money - maybe try micro dermabrasion (or Google it for acne scars and see what comes up)

I used a gel from Boots, I think they call it serum. I have quite a variety of scars, some quite deep or raised. The instructions say use it daily for three months. I was quite surprised to see a noticeable improvement after one month.

One of the scars is puckered at the end where it was perhaps clumsily stitched, that is still not right, and the gel seemed to soften or weaken the skin and it started bleeding a bit.

Microdermabrasion and pure cocoa butter or shea butter. Guaranteed to clear it up. I know it is saidvthat cocoa butter clog pores but for me it worked quickly qnd effectively. I had bad scaring all over my face for years. You would never know that if you saw my skin now.

The pure cocoa butter and Shea butter I got from source. Not refined or anything. Not the usual stuff sold in stores. Just 100% pure.

Do you use acid toners?

fizzycolagurlie · 26/02/2015 04:41

I have scars on my leg from a car accident. Aloa Vera gel was very soothing and helped get the red out. Also silicone gel covers - you put them on at night and they bring scar tissue right down too. Not sure if you'd want them on your face maybe check with the pharmacist?

I used Weleda scar cream on my thyroid op scar, it is almost invisible now. I used it for 2 months. Don't know if it would be any good with old scars.

CoffeeBeanie · 26/02/2015 06:24

Oops sorry, I meant Wala scar gel, it's German, called Wala Narbengel.sorry I don't know if you can get it here.

SoMuchForSubtlety · 26/02/2015 06:27

Silicone covers and gels work on new scars, I don't think there is any evidence that they work on old scars.

I used pure rosehip oil on a scar on my face and it hasn't made it disappear but it has made the overall skin tone more even so the scar is less obvious.

Thanks for your replies everyone. Looks like I can save my money and not bother with the serum stuff! Flambola, what do you mean about acid toners? I had four professional skin peels some years ago which helped a bit but didn't really touch the scarring I have around my chin which is lumpy scarring, rather than pitted. Sounds like laser treatment might be the only possibility. Sad
