Please help me style this dress! I am clueless.

I'm going to a wedding in two weeks time. I've searched everywhere for a dress and finally settled on this navy one. It's just below knee length on me. I am 5ft 5, size 16, pale with long mid brown hair and full fringe.

I don't really wear heels but this dress definitely needs it. I don't even know where to start though? Also some sort of bag. Maybe some other accessories? I'm not sure.

Can anyone please help? I have a £25 gift voucher for New Look that I wouldn't mind using towards something Smile

New Look have some great shoes - what about one of these:

Black

Also comes in nude

More black

Gold glitter

I like this pink

Twinklestein · 25/02/2015 21:30

Shit - I thought your dress was black.

I'd go for the gold in that case.

FelixFelix · 25/02/2015 21:36

Ooh thank you. That's a shame as I really like those nude ones! Sling backs are a no-no for me. I have some weird thing about them. And kitten heels Confused

What colours go with navy? Would mustard go? It's a bit 70s isn't it which is the kind of thing I like. What about burgundy red?

If you like 70s, these are gorgeous and would look amazing with that dress.

FelixFelix · 25/02/2015 22:14

Tethers they are amazing!! Too expensive for me though as I'd never wear them again Sad I wonder if I can find a copycat version?

OP posts:
tethersend · 25/02/2015 22:18

too high?

FelixFelix · 25/02/2015 22:22

I love them too! Too high though Blush I never ever wear heels and will have my 14 month old dd to contend with too. I think I like a chunky heel/platform though so we are getting somewhere Grin

these are great but very high and only available in black Sad I don't think I'll get a chunky heel/platform combo that's not too high though will I?

Sorry for multi posts! I would go for something bold, coral, orange.

Not sure really chunky would be ideal, maybe go and try some different styles on.

FelixFelix · 25/02/2015 22:53

I like the first ones from Next. I think coral is a good colour. Need something a bit jazzy to brighten the whole dress up I think Smile

I was just looking at these but they are a bit bright for me Shock Also can't tell if they are actually horrendous or fabulous Grin

OP posts:
Twinklestein · 26/02/2015 17:10

I'm in the horrendous camp - they look very Aintree.

pineapplewoman · 26/02/2015 17:12

Felix some kind of snazzy belt might go well with dress?

pineapplewoman · 26/02/2015 17:13

And horrendous for me too, sorry!

FauxFox · 26/02/2015 17:20

pretty floral shoes and a
pink bag?

FelixFelix · 26/02/2015 18:02

Thanks for steering me away from the horrendous Grin

The dress is like a wrap dress that is ready wrapped if that makes sense! But it has a belt attached that you wrap around twice and tie.

Funny you should link those floral new look shoes as I keep looking at them. I wasn't sure if they would go or not? Might see if they have them in store so I can try on.

Could you just wear something really plain like these then spend the rest of your voucher on a bold necklace? Or are these too high?

I love the dress by the way and am seriously considering purchasing it either in navy or green…. is it nice quality?

petitdonkey · 26/02/2015 18:12

I was thinking something like this with the nude shoes - too much for you??

You should go and try on though, different tastes and all that, I personally think the floral shoes are horrendous but I know some people will think that about the necklace I linked to!!

petitdonkey · 26/02/2015 18:16

THere are tons of necklaces! I think the reason I like your dress so much is that it's simple and elegant so you can be brave with something like a necklace!

FelixFelix · 26/02/2015 18:49

I really like the second bright shoes you linked! I've seen some plain court shoes from new look which come in an array of colours that I'm considering. I was looking at necklaces but the neckline of the dress is quite a narrow V shape and quite drapey so I'm not sure if one would work or not.

It's a really lovely quality dress, I'm so glad I ordered it. It was a toss up between that one and another but I know I'd wear this one again and can dress it up or down. Definitely order one! The sizing is very accurate too.
