foundations colours 1N1 and 1C1 - is there a big difference?

I used to wear an Estee Lauder foundation called individualist, which I really loved. They stopped making it a few years ago, and in advance of that, I stock piled! Now I'm coming to the end of it and I haven't had any success in finding a decent enough replacement (despite having tried Chanel, the Bourjois one everyone raves about, YSL touche eclat foundation etc). The Estee Lauder one was perfect.

The colour I wore in Individualist is 1C1. Estee Lauder called it 08. There is a seller on eBay selling the Individualist foundation in bumper size (brand new) and it is colour 1N1, which Estee Lauder calls 09. The bottle is huge, and is 80. How different are the two colours, and could I get away with it? There is no try before you buy here, and obvioulsy no returns.

I am really torn!

I don't use that foundation but in general, one will be yellowy/neutral toned and one will be more pink toned. Nnormally things labelled 'cool' are pink toned although in MAC the stuff for pinky tones is confusingly labelled 'W' and the stuff for yellowy toned complexions is marked 'C' and given that MAC is part of the EL group, I'd be wary about saying which is warm and which is cool!

Have you googled colour swatches ?

There is unlikely to be much of a difference in darkness/paleness but there willbe a difference in actual colour.

I found this picture. It is the perfectionist foundation but should give you a basic idea of the swatch colours. The 1c1 is pinker the 1n1 but there doesn't seem to be much of a difference on that swatch, although obviously it may differ in direct sunlight on your skin!

Sorry, helps if I attach the picture!

foundations colours 1N1 and 1C1 - is there a big difference?

Thanks Squeezy. I think the 1C1 which I wear is pink toned, as I imagine that my skin, although pale, is more pink toned than yellow toned. So maybe the 1N1 which is for sale on ebay, is more yellow toned.

The chart (thanks for posting that) doesn't suggest much of a difference though, and both shades on that colour chart look a bit pink toned to me!

I don't know what to do. 80 is a lot of money to completely waste, but its a bargain for 200ml if the colour would work.

I used to wear the doublewear 1c1 and I personally found the 1n1 way too orange for my skin colour. I have bought the 1n1 when they had non of the 1c1 and I had to mix it with a cheap pale foundation to be able to wear it Without the oompa lumpa effect.

WellTidy · 25/02/2015 15:50

hmmmmm snuffykins I think that answers my question! On the plus side, it looks like I have saved myself 80. But that means that the hunt for the perfect Individualist replacement continues.

I go between 1C1 and 1N1 with doublewear. Not much difference. Less pinky but not yellow - W is the yellow toned one. N really is just neutral.

WellTidy · 25/02/2015 16:05

Oooooh. I am quite pinky, I think. Now I'm toying again ...

It really depends on your skin tone. I've switched to vichy dermablend. It's cheaper (in Ireland anyway so I'd presume the UK too), lasts longer than doublewear and colour is good too.

WellTidy · 25/02/2015 16:17

I find double wear way too drying for my already dry skin, and I don't need the coverage. I know that lots of people rate Double Wear, but its not the right product for me. I appreciate your input on colour though. I am still torn.

I found that with double wear too but I stuck it out because I found it hard to find a decent colour match with something else with the same staying power.
