Tell me about perms

I have annoyingly straight hair mostly - though it has a kink in it so it's not poker straight but needs styling. It's quite thick, too.

I'd like a hairstyle which is low maintenance - I'd love a bob like Sienna Miller's with a wave in that I don't have to do too much to. At the moment though, I get straight pokey ends or it looks as if I have been wearing a hat.

I was wondering if a perm might be the solution? Not something tight and 80s, but a bit of a wave; something with body - so that I can wash and go.

Is this a dreadful idea?

I'm guessing a perm is still a dreadful thing.

Can you still get perms?

Not being sarky, genuine questions - I can't remember the last time I saw/heard of someone getting one or saw one on a price list in a salon.

Maybe a blue rinse to go with it Grin

They are awesome.

But it depends on your opinion of low maintence.

They are much better if left to try naturally and using hair oils.

You will occasionally wind up going out with wet hair.

Also the looser the curl, the quicker it will fall out.

I had a perm last year and loved it.

And I'm currently rocking a bleached white bob with a lavender/silver rinse. So ignore Scrambled Grin

You can totally get perms.

That's what I worry about - I have hair that defies curl (out of spite) and I'd only want loose curls. Sort of wavy and messy. I'm happy to go out with wet hair (I do anyway) and hair oils.
