Interview dress

I have landed an interview for nursing at university and hae an idea of what I'd like to wear but no clue what will suit my shape.

I suit blue, and was hoping to find a blue or navy blue dress that I can team with a pale grey cardi (H&M) black tights and black pumps. Does that sound ok?

I am a size 16-18, small boobs, big belly. 5"2.

I would so appreciate some help, I'm so nervous and if I think I look ok I'll feel better!

Oh, the cheaper the better! I'm on a student budget Wink

Blue/navy dress sounds great, but don't team it with a pale grey cardigan and/or black tights.

Navy or nude tights would work well. Tan shoes and bag if nude tights.

How about a dress with sleeves? No need for a cardi then. Something like this?

Lj8893 · 22/02/2015 10:31

I am in a similar situation, have an interview for midwifery at uni and trying to decide what to wear!
i think your outfit sounds good, you want to be comfortable, clean and tidy looking.

tethersend · 22/02/2015 10:45

How about swapping the cardi for a jacket like this? Would look great with this dress...

RedButtonhole · 22/02/2015 10:46

Thankyou tether will stear clear of my tights and cardi combo then!

Would navy tights be ok? I hate nude tights and would prefer more coverage.

I like the dress you linked to, could I layer something similar with a blazer jacket rather than a cardi?

Oh, cross post tether!

I love the second dress you linked to!

What about black tights with a grey dress and black cardigan?

tethersend · 22/02/2015 10:49

If you want to wear the black tights and grey cardi, how about a different colour dress?

Something like this or this?

Mixtape · 22/02/2015 10:50

Or green?

tethersend · 22/02/2015 10:52

Green and navy work well together.

Lj8893 · 22/02/2015 10:52

Yes sorry i missed the black tights/navy dress part. Navy or nude tights would be fine, but not black.

I've just found this, which I like. Not sure what I'd put with it though?

If I paired it with navy tights, what shoes would I wear?

skrumle · 22/02/2015 11:17

i wear a lot of blue, but tend to get patterned dresses that have black in them as well so i can get away with black tights, bag, shoes, etc. would you consider something like www.johnlewis.com/precis-petite-floral-print-dress-blue/p1609715 ??

RedButtonhole · 22/02/2015 11:21

Oh skrum, I do like that! I generally wear alot of print so I'm not afraid of it!

I'll add your link to my list Smile

Thankyou everyone for help so far Thanks

I like that dress you linked to and I would have no problem putting it with black tights - very thick ones, 200 denier if you have them. I wear navy dresses with black all the time!

BikeRunSki · 22/02/2015 11:34

I loce tethers when she is on window shopping form!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/02/2015 11:58

I love navy with black. I'd go for navy dress, black tights and shoes, black jacket or cardigan if needed. Navy dress and navy tights are likely to be two different colours, and I guess you'd be wearing black shoes anyway so might as well have black tights.

Have only looked on M&S so far - Work style I like this Very cheap and have seen it irl

Siolence · 22/02/2015 12:18

I have the jacket Tethers linked to in black and it looks fab and more expensive than it is. Fancy the pink one now!

tethersend · 22/02/2015 13:26

Bikerunski, I've virtually bought SO much crap this morning Grin

I hate navy and black together, but I have to say that it looks pretty good in that link, Remus. Could I be... Changing my mind...? Shock

tethersend · 22/02/2015 13:27

Matalan are brilliant ATM. Still some very dodgy bits, but some great ones too. And good prices.

SuperFlyHigh · 22/02/2015 13:36

Since when did matalan do home delivery?! Smile

Ps love that Oasis dress. If I were feeling bold and would wear it I'd get a red jacket and shoes.

RedButtonhole · 22/02/2015 13:38

I have a mahoosive Matalan near me (well 40 miles away, but so are all the shops!), I always forget it's there so I will have a proper gander as it would be good to try stuff on. I like the jacket you linked to tethers but I'm not a fan of pink so prefer it in black.

If I'm going to stick with the black tights, should I got for more of a true blue rather than navy then? I'd like to be able to wear the stuff again so that it's not a waste of money.

I was sure it was a faux pas but it seems there are mixed views!

Thankyou all again for being patient, I am truly hopeless!

Sainsbury have a gorgeous v neck, knee length navy dress in at the moment - and they have 25 % off. Good luck with the interview Grin

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/02/2015 14:11

Today's headlines - Tethers in shock sartorial turnaround. :)

This is my favourite navy and black look.

RedButtonhole · 22/02/2015 16:21

Thankyou mrssmith, sadly there are no sainsburies anywhere near me, which is annoying as their childrens clothes are great.

Remus if I looked like that I wouldn't give a second thought to what I was wearing, she always looks immaculate and skinny
