I use mac (the pump one) in shade nc20. Its running low and want to replace it with something that wont make me look orange (it doesnt happen all the time)

I have dryish skin (near nose and above eyebrows) and some pinkish pigment on jaw line.
I want something I can build up.

I used to use Estée Lauder but recently tried and liked the purse friendly revlon colour match. There's a lot in the range and there are dry combination and oily skin ranges.

LostMyBaubles · 20/02/2015 16:11

Ive not had any luck in the past with revlon

but thank you for the recommendation

was thinking about this

Can't you try it out at a department store first? I know most larger ones have bare minerals counters..

LostMyBaubles · 20/02/2015 16:36

Its extremely hard for me to go into town (3dc under 5, eldest is disabled, asd etc....)
so if we do go into town its if dh has a day off during the week so theres another adult with me to help

Anyone else?

Hi Lost, QVC sell Bare Minerals. Dont know if they stock the option you'd like to try but perhaps have a look on the website. I like Bobbi Brown. I am not using any Bobbi foundation at the moment but I have tried and do really like their foundation sticks - I wore warm sand and it was not orange on me. Easy to blend and you can build it up. Some people do find some Bobbi shades a bit yellow.

RipMacWinkle · 20/02/2015 17:16

I used Mac before and was NC15 iirc. I just finished a full Armani luminous silk. First time I think I've ever been scraping a foundation out of the bottle etc. Light to medium coverage you can build up. Goes on like a dream. But ££££ which is why I'm waiting till payday before I replace. Plus for the first time ever the shade actually feels like it matches my skin colour. Can't rave about it enough.

YoungJoseph · 20/02/2015 17:34

Try Lily Lolo as a mineral foundation. They are internet only and sell tester pots. Since you know your MAC colour you should be able to narrow your colour choices quickly.

thisissohard · 20/02/2015 18:43

RipMacWinkle I was NC15 in MAC. What shade did you go for in the Luminous Silk? I am also considering the Lasting Silk. Have you tried that?

WagonWheel · 20/02/2015 18:54

If you can't get out so easily with the DCs have a look at Temptalia's foundation matrix here to find matches with MAC NC20. Make sure you put the exact MAC foundation in, though, as I find I am NC25 in some of them and lighter in others depending on formulation. Then go over to makeupalley.com or Google for independent reviews/videos of ones you think you might like. I've heard good things about the Armani one but haven't tried it myself. I'm kind of married to my By Terry One. Have a look at the Cover Expert in shade 4. It's a good match for NC20. The numbers don't go up in terms of darkness but in terms of undertone, so I am no7 in it (the next darkest yellow toned one). It's gorgeous but heavily scented with rose. I have sensitive skin but haven't experienced any adverse reaction. I was also gifted the By Terry Densiliss not too long ago which has actually ruined me for life it is such a thing of beauty but requires a second mortgage. Sad

I quite like diorskin nude and don't find it orange at all.

passthewineplz · 20/02/2015 22:02

Dior is nice, I currently use benefit hello flawless - but I'm poor at the moment and was toying with a cheaper option, but not sure I dare risk it.

Think Debenhams do bare minerals now too

RipMacWinkle · 20/02/2015 22:38

thisissohard I use shade 2 which (confusingly!) I believe is the lightest. I haven't used the lasting silk. Do you recommend?

clarad · 20/02/2015 23:33

I love the NARS sheer glow foundation- absolutely wonderful in my view and I would highly recommend it!!

coffeenut · 21/02/2015 00:47

the Armani Lasting and luminous silk are both lovely but expensive - they are more a special occasion foundation for me. I am NC20 (I have both cool and warm tones though and have also been matched to NW20 but that turned orange on me. Actually all MAC foundtn turns orange on me ... Helpful!?). I am 4.5 in Luminous, or 5/5.5 (can't remember as do not currently have one in circulation) in the Lasting.

NARS sheer glow is nice but it goes patchy on me by the end of the day (and ghosts in photographs).

Lancome Teint Idole is another favourite but might be too drying for you.

Revlon colorstay in oily/combo is my everyday in Sand Beige but you've said it doesn't agree with you (none of the other rev foundations agree with me though, just a thought - including the normal/dry skin even though I do have dry patches, the dry skin one is watery and horrid).

Bobbi Brown I don't get along with. I have the stick foundation and it's quite hard to apply - looks thick/dry and awful on me, but perhaps if I used a better technique it would work better. The foundations just don't really have enough coverage and/or lasting power for me.

You could also try Chanel Vitalumiere or aqualumiere? Both have good coverage and suit dry skin. They don't have enough lasting power for me though.

LostMyBaubles · 21/02/2015 11:06

Thank you all for the suggestions
will have a look and I might even email a few companies asking for a sample? If I explain the situation?

Thank you very much for the help. Got a few I could work from there

RipMacWinkle- I haven't tried it before, but I saw a side by side comparison on a website and the Lasting seemed to fill in the pores better than the Lumnious Silk. I have an issue with foundations always seeming to pool in my pores and make my face look oily and craterous come lunchtime.

Amethyst24 · 21/02/2015 12:55

YSL Touche Éclat and Fusion Ink are both fab.

Lovewearingjeans · 21/02/2015 13:25

If you can get to a bare minerals counter they are generous with their samples, giving a mini version of the product that lasts more than a couple tries.

RipMacWinkle · 23/02/2015 16:44

In case anyone is considering this, I got an email today saying debenhams are doing a 10% off beauty this week. Presumably JL will price match. Maybe others. It's only 10% but still....
