Hairdresser recommendation in Leeds

sheeesh · 20/02/2015 10:09

Hi,

Could anyone recommend a hairdresser in Leeds? I have a fringe, shoulder length hair and I want a decent cut and colour. Nothing too out there and overly trendy but not ready for a blue rinse yet.

I've been sorely tempted, when I see women with nice haircuts, to tap them on the shoulder to ask about their hairdresser but haven't dared do it!

price range - prepared to spend around £80 - £100 for both cut and colour but would prefer to spend less!

You might get a better response in local chat ... But in the meantime, do you mean Leeds CityCentre?

FelixFelix · 20/02/2015 15:54

I've started going to Harlows Den on New Briggate. I find a lot of city centre hairdressers very intimidating but I love it there. It's a small salon and very friendly. They did a sterling job with my fringe Grin

Renegade on Cookridge Street is fab.

HermioneWeasley · 20/02/2015 16:37

I was going to say Renegade too. Was put off for years because it looks much trendier than I am, but got a groupon deal and it was the best haircut I've had. I keep going back and paying full price, which is rare for me!

sheeesh · 20/02/2015 16:46

Thanks All. Leeds City Centre ideally.
I've wondered about Renegade. Came up in a google search and had lots of good reviews. I've tried so many hairdressers over the years (including the big names in Leeds) and it seems I get one or two good cuts then it's like they stop caring and the cuts get worse and worse.
I just want somewhere I can go, not feel like they're doing me a favour letting me in the place, and get a decent haircut Smile

Which stylist would you recommend at Renegade?

Christian at Benson Hefti in Guiseley - only 14 mins on the train from the city centre

BunnyLebowski · 20/02/2015 17:01

Renegade is a good salon but they have that aloof 'too cool for school' vibe that makes you feel like you're inconveniencing them when you walk in.

I had a great cut there by Rachel but was ignored on arrival and had a 15 minute wait which they didn't explain and only apologised for when I complained.

Jon Kinsey on Harrogate Road is the best salon I've found in Leeds but it's not in the city centre.

Oh and avoid Cutting Room Creative. Rip off merchants who don't listen to what you want.

BunnyLebowski · 20/02/2015 17:02

I'm following Harlow's Den on FB and their cuts look really impressive.

FelixFelix · 20/02/2015 17:08

Bunny you would like it there. They do a lot of vintage do's.

sheeesh · 20/02/2015 17:38

Harlow's Den looks like a salon I would have LOVED when I was younger. Now I feel too frumpy for a place like that - but it does look appealing

Who would you recommend at Harlow's Den?

Wombat22 · 20/02/2015 17:46

Hair at brills on Street Lane, Moortown is very good

FelixFelix · 20/02/2015 19:22

sheeesh you're not too frumpy! It's very friendly and normal. Talisa does my hair but Laura who is the owner is fab too.

fearandloathinginambridge · 20/02/2015 19:51

I was in the Outlaws Yacht Club yesterday which (bizarrely) has a hairdresser in it. I was drinking wine and watching women get their hair cut. I was impressed enough with the work to make an appointment for myself. It's behind Kirkgate Market.

ThereisnoFinWay · 20/02/2015 20:01

Would you go to Harrogate? Mine is excellent if you'd travel.

FelixFelix · 20/02/2015 20:17

Fear that's where I used to go! The bloke with the long hair is fab if he's still about. The girl who set up Harlows used to work there Smile

JoyceDivision · 20/02/2015 20:41

Hi Op,

I recommend the element creative, just round the corner from yates on the way to the train station, book in with reece or matthew, they are both really good, I've been going there about 16 years and they are fab Smile

LordEmsworth · 20/02/2015 20:51

Not been there for years, but if I still lived in Leeds then Steven at Wildest Dreams in Crossgates would still be doing my hair.

fearandloathinginambridge · 20/02/2015 21:00

Hi Felix - it's a rare little place isn't it. Had a lovely, chilled afternoon there.

sheeesh · 20/02/2015 21:51

I'm going to book in at Harlow's. I like the variety of the photos on their FB page.
LordEmsworth Wildest Dreams sounds a bit saucy - might have to work up to that one Wink

Thanks all!
