What order would I do this in? Home hair colour related)

I have short wavy hair (which I'm going to have cut today because it's reached it's 6-8 week 'limit' and now is a bit unruly )

I use a perm dye 9at the moment a coppery red which gives me a warm auburny colour) and because it;s short, I don't get loads of overlap.

So- if I wanted to put in some highlights/ lowlights, how would I do this?

I can;t use a highlight kit over a dye can I? I seem to remember that you can't lighten a dark dye with a light one.

So if I did the highlights first, then dyed on top would that work?
Would the coppery colour turn out a bit lighter on the highlights/

I'm not worried (too much) about frying my hair - in 6 weeks it will be gone.

Highlights would be as fine as I can make them , mainly at the front/crown (very 80s I know Blush )

I've got an emergency turd brown dye in case it goes badly wrong.

Because its a coppery colour I would worry about the highlights going too pink. If its a proper highlights kit, ie bleach, it will lift the dark dye no problem, but maybe not to blonde.
Ive highlighted then dyed to get the lighter colours but it doesnt always take.
Sorry not much help!

PINK Shock I hadn't thought of that.

I buy a Superdrug home dye box (and I've seen highlight kits there, no idea what strength they are)

Mmmmm.

I'll have the cut, do my copper then tomorrow do the highlights.

(could I carry off pink, I wonder??)

Thanks

If you arent using a lot if highlights Garnier do a small box, mI'm a bit cavalier with dye because I have a pixie and know I can cut it out, or through more dye at it Grin
