Any Retin A users around?

Just a question about holidays. I know you have to be super careful about sun exposure and I wear a sunscreen daily which seems to be suffice in the UK.

I am thinking well ahead, but what do you do on a holiday say in Italy in the height of summer? I would always use 50spf on my face but I'm wondering if this is enough? Some conflicting advice when I have searched, from using a sunblock is enough to not using for 2 weeks prior but then your skin will go back to pre Retin A.

And as a side question any long term users noticed a difference in your skin tone, my skin is smoother but I still have quite blotchy skin.

I use Retin A. (I can tolerate it about 3 times a week).

FWIW this is what I do for hols: I stop using Retin A while on hols, maybe a few days before if I remember. Slather on the SPF50, (LRP Anthelios 50) wear a big floppy hat, and big sunglasses. And yes, my skin has to build up tolerance to Retin A after the hols but it's no great hassle.

Is my skin better? Well, I'm told my skin looks 'great' every so often (past history of acne so skin is commentable on, if you follow). Pigmentation is definitely better. Tone is probably better.

Thanks lurking I have just read some advice to use a retinol product in place of retin while on holiday. And yes to big hat and glasses.
