Tube mascaras-any good?

Sorry if this has already been done to death, but I'm thinking of getting a tube mascara like the L'Oreal double extension one. I'm sick of having panda eyes even with waterproof mascaras. I must have very oily lids or something. Has anyone tried them? Are they worth investing in? Are there other makes apart from the L'oreal one?

I guess you could use a primer underneath the boots one of you wanted more volume ? I'm tempted to try the boots as it's a bargain on eBay whereas the l'oreal one is not.
I have the cat eye mascara and although it's better than most in terms of staying put it still leaves an under eye smudge on me. I must rub my eyes a lot without realising.
