Present for a 60ish woman

Hi all

My mum's birthday is coming up, and she has asked for something nice that she wouldn't get herself, in the magic potions department.

This means not available in Asda Smile

She has enjoyed l'occitane, and Crabtree and Evelyn stuff that I've bought her previously, and that's the kind of price range I'm looking at.
I think she wants something that will actually work to make her face feel or look rejuvenated.

I remember seeing a eye gel that tightened the skin until you washed it off (so a temporary eye lift) on QVC or some such, though I helpfully can't remember what it was called. That was one idea, but I'm really just looking for ideas of things that you swear by, as it's not my area of expertise - yet!

I'd really appreciate your input.

I'm heading towards 60 and the only pricey stuff I really rate is from Neals Yard, especially the Frankincense range.

DorothyGherkins · 18/02/2015 23:06

Was it Eyesential? I used to watch it being sold on QVC and Ideal World in those long forgotten times when I used to watch telly in the daylight hours!

I used to love the before and after photos.

There's a Neal's yard near me, that could be worth an investigate.

Eyes entail sounds promising too, thanks both of you.

Neals yard. Waitrose sell a small selection of stuff.

My almost 70 year old mum loves REN.

I recently gave my MIL a pot of L'Occitane's Divine cream. It's spenny and too rich for my skin but she said that it was hands down the best cream she had ever used with almost instantaneous results. I like the packaging, too, which is vaguely deco and very elegant on a dressing table. Only problem is that I've started a horribly expensive habit now...
What's her skin type/normal regime? I really like some of Ren's products, too. The Rose Otto range always seems well received.
Elemis make some beautiful bathing products but the skincare is rather too heavily scented for me. despite the worldwide phenomenon that is their Pro Collagen range.

Try Tk maxx for Miller harris candles and bath stuff. They are in my local branch.

Also if you are going to order from the locctaine website try typing the code NEWYEAR to receive a free hand cream trio in a tin when you spend £25 or more. I got the email yesterday and it's only on for two days so it should work.

I always find locctaine really generous with samples in store if you do spend, and often have money off gift bags too. I have used these for SiL present and has been greatly received. My mum loves her Chanel No 5 soap. I buy her one every Christmas and birthday, as it is her indulgent treat.

Thank you all for the recommendations. The code for l'occitane is super - I may just use that myself!

I love the Vichy range (only in Boots nowadays) - after using it for a few days she will definitely see a difference.

As a 60ish (oh, all right - 60 year old) woman, I agree L'Occitane would be very welcome. Lovely scents and packaging and looks luxe on the dressing table.

As to something that 'really works' - well, I think we all know in our heart of hearts that nothing is actually going to reverse the signs of ageing, no matter what the adverts tell us, so I'd go for something that feels lovely on the skin and makes her feel a bit special when she applies it.

Oh, and yes to Neal's Yard too, my DD actually got me body stuff from there at Christmas and it's gorgeous.
