Help! Itchy, painful spot thing on lip

I don't think it's a cold sore, I have never had one before. It is itchy, painful and a bit crusty now and just under/on my lower lip edge. I have used some hydrocortisone but it has not really helped. I've had it for a couple of days now.

And, my DD (5) has had a red, crusty bit at the side of her lip for weeks now that doesn't seem to be improving much either.

Honestly, I don't think either are cold sores though! Any advice on how to get rid of these buggers very welcome.

It sounds like a cold sore, but if your dd has had the same it could be impetigo, which will need ABs to clear up.

It does sound like a cold sore . You shouldn't use hydrocortisone on an open wound. Go to a pharmacist and they will give you something more appropriate.

It sounds like it could be either or (impetigo or a cold sore). I'd be more inclined to say it is impetigo, because your daughter has had it for weeks as you said, and it is extremely contagious. Your best bet is to visit the GP, so you can get it looked at and treated with antibiotics, depending on what it is.
