Why are my nails like this?

My nails flake and peel so much. They always have a little bit but they are really bad at the moment. (Excuse the state of my cuticles, they are not normally like that).
I always wear gloves when washing up and cleaning, I put hand cream on at least 4 times a day.
I did wonder if it could be to do with diet, but not sure what...
Any ideas anyone please?

OP

Glass nail file, Nail Envy clear polish, zinc and Iron supplements. An omega 3 supplement might do good too.
Burts Bees lemon butter cuticle cream for your cuticles.

Promise all those things really work and will improve your nails no end.

I would go and have your iron levels checked - mine went incredibly low and my nails went like that.

Also found to have a vitamin D deficiency. I don't know if that does anything but I upped mine and the iron and they have stopped flaking.

I think it can be an internal thing with a lot of problems like this - I get really chapped lips and I know it's because I don't drink enough.

My nails can be just like yours. Get sharp clippers, cut them as short as you can then apply Vaseline at night time. Keep them extremely short till the flakes are gone, then don't let them get too long again. When they are longer they need to be a smooth squoval shape, not narrow or square at the ends.

I honestly think its more to do with what you put inside, as opposed to what you are or aren't doing with your nails. What is your hair like right now? I started taking a ladies multivitamin that the dr recommended for pms and since i started taking it, my nails and hair are in better condition that they have ever been.

The brand i take you probably wont get in UK its Primeve Plus incase you do and it contains evening primrose oil which i think is what helps.

Thank you for all your replies. I have invested in a glass file today, and have been applying oil many times a day.
I really want some Nail Envy so might get some of that too.
I used to use nailteques and remember it being very good.
I tend to agree that it might be about nutrients too, I don't eat low fat but could well not have enough iron or vit d...
