I need to return a couple of pairs of jeans but not sure whether to trek into town to return them to the store or risk a postal return.

Are their postal returns reliable?

Yes they are. I've used them a few times for concessions which have to be returned by post (Royal Mail using pre-paid sticker) and have never had a problem. Do make sure you get proof of postage from the post office when you send them so if they go astray you will still get a refund. Easy to create return online to get authorisation and you'll get an email when they receive your parcel and process the return.
