Suggestions for a new 'proper' perfume

I'd like a new perfume but not the lighter fragrances that are around (like Marc Jacobs Daisy) that wear off almost immediately.

I'm thinking something heavier like Chanel No 5, Angel or Obsession - but not those as I've had them several times before.

What others might you suggest?

Have you got a Penhaligons near you? Not cheap but oh, so lovely. My personal favourite is Juniper Sling (well it smells like gin so I was bound to love it) but you could go and explain your preferences to them.

Yes, I did try Bluebell a while ago and whilst it was very lovely, it didn't last very long :(

I'm looking for a grown up scent too and got the Penhaligon's 4 fragrance tester set. I'm hoping by the end of it, I'll have one I really love and wear forever.

Bottega Veneta have a new one called Knot. Really nice.

KiaOraOAotearoa · 10/02/2015 21:25

Coco :)

Guerlain. Shalimar is a classic. The new La Petite Robe Noire is lovely but very sweet imo. It smells of cherry. The Aqua Allegoria range is very nice too.

Hermes make lovely perfumes too, some of their older ones are quite heavy while the newer ones imo seem lighter. I love Kelly Caleche which is somewhere in between light and heavy.

Dior, YSL, Chloe, Ellis Faas, Bvlgari and Balenciaga also have very nice and quite heavy perfumes.

What scent family do you like - florals, orientals, gourmands etc? What is your budget?

bonhomme · 10/02/2015 21:38

I wouldn't want to spend over £50 really. I like all sorts of scent families but for this purchase, just looking for something heavier really. I've had and liked Coco, Feminite du Bois by Shiseido as well as those mentioned above.

I was just going to suggest Feminite de Bois which is now made by Serge Lutens. His range had lots of grown up proper scents.

Dior Addict edp and Hypnotic Poision are both strong and long lasting

MaraThonbar · 11/02/2015 00:03

Mitsouko, but not the edt

thisissohard · 11/02/2015 07:12

Shalimar edp. Gorgeous!

goshhhhhh · 11/02/2015 07:15

Serge Lutens perfumes - five o'clock au gingembre or one of the bois ones

BlueEyedWonder · 11/02/2015 07:23

I like Coco and Chance.
More recently I started wearing Estee Lauder Modern Muse. Not sure it's as heavy but I like it.

FuckyNell · 11/02/2015 07:29

YY Dior hypnotic perfume.

Also guerlain samsara.

Paloma Picasso too.

bonhomme · 11/02/2015 15:56

Well I tried several today - so many, I almost lost count which was which.

My chosen one is Chanel Chance. Thanks for all the suggestions :)

I quite like the Prada Infusion d'Iris which I spotted in TKMax the other day.
